Re: New Wide Angle Wet Lens at Flagpole

I've used a Kraken KRL-02 on my old RX100 for years and it did a really nice job. For a $400+ wet lens it seemed to do well.

Horseshoe Crab

So a couple of were diving just southeast of Duwamish Head on Saturday, and coming back up the slope at about 120’, found a large horseshoe crab shell. We didn’t stop to investigate, but it didn’t have a tail spike, so figured it was just a shell. Like the proverbial transplanted lobsters, would tha...

Re: Redondo Parking lot situation

Haven't been down to Redondo for evening dives in a while, but are there any updates to parking since last year? I'm assuming that tickets are handed out if we don't have a pass after dusk?

Re: The Bottle Thread

No idea what this one is. There's a manufacturer's mark of 3-0-5151, but other than that, no markings. Seams go all the way to the top and there's no lip markings. It's not quite a common milk bottle shape, so thinking maybe condiment jar from '30's-40's?

One of the nicest I’ve pulled out at Cove 2 and didn’t require much cleanup.

Re: The Bottle Thread

So, anyone have any good methods for removing barnacle remnants on bottles/glass/china without damage? They can be scraped off after soaking but that risks scratching the bottle. Thoughts?

Re: The Bottle Thread

Picked this nice semi-round bottomed bottle out in Cove 2 at about 130'. From the lip, it appears to be about 1870ish, but I can't find any info on the marks yet.Image

Saturday 5/16: Cove 2 0900 on light flood tide - Dive by braille (2-3' max, maybe less) down to about 25-30' then opens up to about 10 - 15' the deeper you go.

Re: The Bottle Thread

Nice little bottle from 110' at Cove 2. Only markings are the 6 "square" 0 3 on the bottom, and due to mold lines, seems to be post 1903? Old corked medicine bottle?

Judging from the wound just above the right pec fin, we encountered the same shark Sunday evening. Showed for about 20 seconds to check us out, then headed off.

Bottles on Beach

For newer divers - if you see a smaller scuba bottle on the beach or up against the rocks, please leave it. If it seems to be getting loose from rocks, just prop it back against the rocks or slightly higher on the beach. It is not lost and the diver is most likely nearby!

Re: Viz Reports Thread

C2 - Sunday AM 0700, high tide, and almost empty parking lot. Fairly epic! Maybe 30'+ down to below the logs, then got a bit cloudier as we got deeper. Still had daylight down to 145+'. Also seemed to be agreeable with the Lion's Manes, had three really large jellies between the deep logs and the bo...

7/27 Cove 2, bottom of ebb tide. Maybe 5-8' viz all the way down to 75', then opened up to maybe 10-15' at the logs. With the overcast, even Honey Bear was a bit on the dark side.

Re: Best options for cold water/warm water hybrid bp&w rig

Lots of good advice here. Just to add to the list, I use an OMS 4.5 lb stainless plate and a HOG wing for PNW cold water diving, but take the same rig to warm water. It's a couple pounds heavier, but I can still get all my gear in the bag without excess baggage fees, and previously used the same pla...
