Re: Who's your LDS and Why??

Interesting thread for what has been written -- and especially what has not been written. I'd also be interested in how many of the "my LDS" decisions are based in large part (not necessarily in full part) on distance -- that is, is there some maximum distance you use to determine "my...

Re: As n00b as they come.

revstr, Congratulations on getting your OW cert. You were a pleasure to teach and I just hope you enjoyed the class half as much as I did. Please feel free to take LCF up on her offer to go diving. As you might imagine, we have, and this Board has, quite a bit of gear that is sometime (oft times?) a...

Re: Totally Awesome Dive at Les Davis, Dudes!

I love it. May I have permission to:

a. Post a link on my scuba website -- http://www.tsandm.com/scuba

and

b. Download it so that I can use it in my OW classes to show the students what fun can be had?

Re: Canon anounces the new Powershot G11

dph made an interesting point in comparing the S90 (he continued to misID it as the 4 year old S80) with the G11 regarding the hot shoe. IF I was interested in using other than optic fiber for my strobe, I'd agree but since my Inon uses optic fiber, frankly Scarlett..... OTOH, I think, even with the...

Re: Canon anounces the new Powershot G11

I'm thinking the new S90 may well be the better choice for an UW camera. It is using the same sensor & processor as the G11 but has a faster (f2.0) lens. Other than being a bit smaller and having a faster lens, I can't find anything in the specs that indicate the G11 would be a better camera. I'...

Re: Maui... recommendations?

OK -- I'll try to actually be helpful! First question, where are you staying? North of Lahaina or Kihei/Wailea? Second question, diving solo or with your long-suffering better half? Third question, want fun photo type dives or tec type dives? My parents have lived in Kihei for 20+ years and I've spe...

Re: Lost & Found at Cove 2

[Moderate HiJack] For those of you with the DUI harness, how often do you pull the weight pouches? I've had one for two+ years and haven't pulled the pouches since it left the store! I keep thinking I should, just as a test, but I remember how much it sucked to rethread the thing -- so the pockets h...

Re: Questions on 7’ primary hoses???

Re DSAT (PADI Tech) -- Yes, the Hogarthian rig is the standard and even the "PADI Tech Specialty" (or something like that -- PADI's new "Intro to Tech") requires the PADI AOW diver to have the long hose/bungied backup. Another point to consider is that, at least at "my"...

Re: Open Water Day 1, Cove 2

From the other side of the mask, this weekend was my first weekend as The Instructor -- and I'm looking at my students and doing the Astronaut's Prayer. Fortunately none of them broached (nor even got that close now that I think about it) but one had a very hard time inflating his BC with his snorke...

Re: Keystone CLOSING - possibly

John, you asked the question of "Why buy more land when you can't support the land you own?" which is a great question but, sadly, fails to comprehend government budgeting realities. In general, there are two types of funds at the state level -- general funds and capital funds and they oft...

Re: Keystone CLOSING - possibly

They should have reinstated the parking fees -- assuming the collection costs didn't exceed the revenue. In my very humble opinion, each park should be self-supporting from an operational standpoint with capital expenditures and "Olympia" expenses coming from general funds (or similar sour...

Re: I need to purchase course materials: aow - dive master

It is not required that you purchase the materials from a Dive Shop. You can purchase from any source -- BUT, a problem might be that you are purchasing older materials and you should have the most current version(s). The pricing is a bit strange and there are some online sources which sell the mate...

Congratulations. And it should just get better. Now for the $24 question, WHY were you able to hover with the BP/W but unable before? What did YOU do differently? After all, a BP/W is just another BC and it didn't cause you to be able to hover -- so what was different? Of course the possible hints: ...

So, you liked the long hose for air sharing -- so do I. It looks like you have the inflator/octo combo on your BC -- ...

Davidson Rock Help Needed

I'm looking at doing a couple of Tech 1 Experience Dives this coming Saturday, 18 April. It has been suggested I (we) do Sares Head and Davidson Rock. I've found GPS coordinates for Sares Head in Betty Pratt-Johnson's book (48.25.503N/122.40.347W) but I can't find any coordinates for Davidson Rock -...

Re: Dive bag for Tech gear?

Because of the weight limits, I've also considered attaching my carryon to my BP so I save the 6 pounds. To date, I've been able to use a two bag limit but I'm off to LAX in June and Alaska says one bag free -- so I may be trying out my backpack idea then.

I used to ski quite a bit, but no more -- something just had to go. Dusty -- I sent the one I flooded back to Canon and supposedly will get it back refurbished -- and I have another one from Ebay. By the time they are both toasted, I'll have probably succumbed to that Sea and Sea housing for my XSi!
