Ink is highly subjective. If you know what kind of art you want, it will be easier to point you in the right the direction. Some guys do old school well, some Asian, some shading.

I would get your prints onto a large drive, then leave it off. If the disk isn't spinning it can't break. If you are only using it for backs ups-not an online storage or back up, the disk should last a long time.
