Where to live in PNW?
This may seem to be an odd question; but I'd like some opinions on where in the PNW are the best places to live. Primary hobbies are SCUBA, Cycling and Photography. Preference is to be someplace where any of them can be indulged in as the whim dictates, maybe even daily. Need to be someplace where w...

Re: Economy affecting your dive travel?
Sure, for all but those who are getting paid scuba is recreation. Recreation is paid by discretionary dollars. When there are a lot of discretionary dollars the "productivity" of those dollars isn't an issue. A week long 5 or 6 dive trip that may cost a couple thousand dollars in travel, l...

Re: Economy affecting your dive travel?
I got my Undercurrent update. Seems another boat went out of business. Too bad. Those of us who pay attention to economics knew something bad was going to happen when, a few years ago, the large financial firms went public. After all, they were raking in money when they were privately held. Folks in...

Re: Economy affecting your dive travel?
Understand. After my injury in July I had planned on a couple dedicated dive trips, one to SEA area, that would have been fun but had realitively little diving compared to a "dive destination". Now, costs have endangered all dedicated dive travel. It is hard to spend the money for very few...

Re: Ever had an equipment failure?
Here are the failures I've either had, or have personally witnessed and was able to determine the cause: >The inflator hose on a borrowed wing had a "hat" on it. The hat rubbed on the corrugated hose and disconnected. First, dive with new folks and we were in shallow water. Went shallower,...

Re: What Would A Healtier Puget Sound Look Like?
I guess I presented a little different perspective on the viability of the planet and our role on it. So often what is presented is egocentric. That is a view is presented as if us humans were the focus and the planet depends on us taking care of it. When a longer term perspective would be that the ...

Re: What Would A Healtier Puget Sound Look Like?
Everyone, including all who post on this forum have an agenda, or agendas. Whether they are positive or negative depends on point of view. Something like the old saw: "I'm firm in my beliefs; but you are bullheaded". I guess, like all us folks, I interpret things from my experience. In tha...

Re: What Would A Healtier Puget Sound Look Like?
One of the real problems in discussing subjects such as this is establishing a common set of definitions. Another is to differentiate political perspectives, social activism, established fact, theory, and, very important, time perspective. Often these get so intertwangled that it makes it difficult ...

Checked with ScubaToys on the Light Sock. They say it won't fit. The LED500 head is too large.

Re: What Would A Healtier Puget Sound Look Like?
Guess the answer depends on two things: What is your definition of "Healthier"? What is your time reference? Is it contemporary? Geologic? Planetary? What? From what I've been led to believe most water bodies, including Puget Sound, have had vastly different compositions over time. What's...

Re: DiveRite LED 500
If the dive shop gives me a square deal on Monday I will. Since the gift certificate won't cover the total cost of the light they have room to either give me a good deal, or not. Oh, after posting before I realized that with the cannister option the only thing in the Lightsock would be the light hea...

Re: DiveRite LED 500
Do you think the Light Sock will work with the LED500? There appears to be a substantial difference in size between it and the one in the picture, and I suppose weight. If it will work that is a workable solution.

Re: BP/W weight options?
I have and use the Classic DUI Harness. I like it very much and have used it both wet and dry. One downside is that it feels bulky under the BP when diving wet. Oh, and some folks say having it on looks too "techie". Not a downside of the harness but an effect of airline weight restriction...

Re: DiveRite LED 500
Yep, the light sure is expensive. But, what 10W equivalent light isn't? Of course the gift certificate helps a lot with that. Since DiveRite says this light is ok to use on land, sea and undersea I was thinking that with the cannister option I could use it diving, biking, or just knocking around. Wi...

DiveRite LED 500
I won a gift certificate from a dive operator. I was thinking of applying it toward a DiveRite LED 500 light with the Cannister Attachement. I would have to add some cash. From the ads it looks like a nice light. I am thoroughly sold on DiveRite's customer service. BUT, I can't find any user reviews...

Re: Poll: Atomic Regs B2 or M1???
Neither. Bought a set of DIN M1s - Missing parts and leaks. Replaced with another set that were delivered in what appeared to be factory sealed boxes - Both were missing their external O rings; which means they could not have been tested before leaving the factory. Factory agreed to test if I return...

Thanks for all the input, Everyone. This is all very useful. =D> Like Sounder, I struggle with the "must have more" demon. You know, I think the "must have more" demon is a phase. I know I went through it, carrying double 100s for a dive to 100 feet, bladdity blah. But, at some ...

Sounds like maybe we should plan a small club dive while you are here. Nice. Maybe, if I'm lucky, I could remember which face and real name goes with which screen name, eh? Just let me know about when that could happen. When I get back from Hawaii on the 20th I'll need to make airplane reservations...

Coming South, I Hope, I Hope
When I get back from Hawaii later this month I'll be buying tickets to come to Puget Sound in mid-October for about a week. Grateful diver has been kind enough to offer me a bed. Now I'm looking for folks to dive with so I can justify the airline ticket to my boss (wife). The exact days aren't picke...

Re: Sore Butt But I Did It
I'd be pretty surprised by that. Mine is a 2 liter one in a kind of neoprene sleeve. It lays fairly flat on my back and is pretty aerodynamic. If you're looking where you're going the turbulence from your head is going to cause the camelback to be in a turbulent area anyway. I'd guess the benefits ...
