Re: Diving & The Economy

of course we could just take a hint from our our neighbors to the north... I suspect more of us go up there to dive their artificial reefs than come down here to dive ours ;) http://www.divenewsnetwork.com/single-post/2017/12/07/The-Journey-of-a-Concrete-Ship-From-Breakwaters-to-Reefs In a way this...

Re: Diving & The Economy

A further thought: Economic well being in this context is only meaningful when population is figured into the calculation. That is why our current global economy is in such turmoil. Our population is rapidly increasing but the ability to provide each person with a job and life comforts is not increa...

Re: Diving & The Economy

Actually, you aren't far off according to many economic models. In galactic terms the planet we call earth, is indeed "local. When Time is factored in to analysis many answers are changed. But, attracting people and their money from elsewhere means our businesses grow and theirs decrease. In ma...

Re: Diving & The Economy

Actually, the study's conclusions are a bit flawed. Local divers who spend local money in local places contribute to local economic churn, but not to the overall economy. That is done by outside divers who bring outside money to the local area. This is why so many places work so hard to develop and ...

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

Don't know your age and physical condition so can only say those are Really important. Health care availability is a critical factor. Transportation when you can't drive is important unless you are ready, willing, and able to move again when you can't drive. Lots of claims about public transportatio...

Sorry for the gap in time. I went down south for my son's birthday. What a shock. Temperature at home +50. Seven hours later step out of the terminal at DEN to +90 degrees. HOT I can vouch that the definition of "hideabed" is accurate. I was told it is an old English word meaning "tor...

Re: Dispose of Dive Gear

pony is a 40cf currently rigged with reg as a deo cylinder. It is full of 100% O2. List here? With shipping from Alaska I didn't think anyone would be interested. I'll be reasonable on price. But, I can't afford to pay shipping to give the stuff away. If y'all think people would be interested I'll t...

Done

It was a good 11 years from 63 to 74. Was able to scratch an itch, really scratch an itch with about a 1000 dives. I say "about" because I didn't keep a formal dive log. But when you travel and do 20-25 per week it isn't a giant mental task to get a working number. My spine trauma brought ...

Dispose of Dive Gear

Looks like diving is done. Need some suggestions on how to dispose of it. Complete dual tank and tank+pony rigs, two sets of regards spools, reels, dry suit, etc.

I'll check with local shop again. But I think they want to sell what they have, not take on used stuff.

Re: Scuba is "too expensive" Huh?

You ought to add in transportation to far away dive sites when you live in Alaska! The gear is almost bycatch.

Still, I have a garage full of gear, all in good condition that I now have the problem of selling. At least the transportation doesn't leave any residue.

Not sure this deserves a Thread. But, I didn't find anyplace else. So... I received an email saying someone had quoted me in a thread. The email had a link to the thread. When I followed the link it took me to a "Post does not exist" location. I replied to the email giving the details. Nev...

Re: Diver finds lost Nuke in BC

Article isn't written very well. Not a "lost nuke". Actually, what it says, I think, is that it was a simulated bomb. No nuclear material involved.
Location supports the idea that it was a simulated device. Otherwise it would have been recovered ages ago.

Really happy no cancer. ☺

Just curious, and a bit nosy. Removed the entire pancreas, or just a portion?

Any ongoing medication, or lifestyle changes?

Great attitude Bruce. Never give up living. You may dive again. Or, you may not. To quote that old song title: "The future is not ours to see". But, regardless, with that positive attitude you WILL succeed.

One of my favorite dive locations. They have easy, don't need a computer, watch or dive plan, just dive till the cylinder is empty dives. Then there are some that are challenging, like the Spiegel Grove and the Coast Guard Cutters. Both are deep and the variable current at the Spiegel Grove can be a...

A Wee Bit Of Sunshine

Some good news for a change. In the midst of moving hadn't been to the doc in a couple years. Except for when I totally crushed a toe when I dropped a scuba weight on it that is. Bone fragments looked like grains of rice. My new doc looked at my history, including all the titanium in my spine. Then ...
