Re: Whales and Boats

Nice. Much harder to be surprised when there are 20 whale watching boats flitting about. Even then we've had to stop and wait for them to pass.

Re: Attached Drysuit Boots Cause Floaty Feet?

All that stuff is good but Atomic split fins are like life preservers. I had them and they were annoyingly floaty.

Re: The ROCK ...

I've thought about putting a ladder just to the right but I'm lazy and taking the BC off and seal-flopping in has worked fine.

One of the few times there has been another dive boat at Blakely Rock while we were there.

Re: Harbor Seals of Alki

I circle-of-lifed a small red octo once on a night dive at Alki. Lit the little guy up with my light a bit too long. One second he was there. Then swoosh goes the seal and with it the octo. I felt bad.

Re: Blakely Rock 6/12

You forgot to mention that time JPA jumped off the boat with his zipper half open. Yeah, cause he's an idiot. It was a great time but if that amount of stuff went wrong every time I'd never use the boat. And I found the blown fuse that took out the pumps. Could have fixed it right then if, as menti...

Re: Sea lion friend or foe?

I felt it but it didn't hurt. I was fairly pissed but I didn't make any aggressive moves. I didn't want to get drug around by a large mammal. This is one time where I wish I had a huge camera rig to shelter behind. I got picked on because a single Sola isn't very intimidating. He gave me the stare a...

Re: Boat additions

Very nice. I have a dive door (more of a panel) in the side of the boat and have to do a seal flop or killer-whale skid to get back in. Have to remove the BCD and it's not very dignified but the gunwale's only a couple inches above the water with the panel out. Every time I think of getting a ladder...

As I said Blakely Rock is great. Here's Stephen's video from last year with stellar top-side vis.

Re: Aug 23rd (2 Tank Boat Dive) on the Aluminator

Blakely Rock (Shangri-La) is great. I'd ask to do the slack dive on that one. Stephen and I dive it from my boat all the time. Live boat pickup is so much more relaxing.

Re: Restoration project at Saltwater State Park

Yes, interesting. Stephen and I were stuck outside Saltwater Park early one day as the person tasked with opening the gate was late. Another time they never did show and we went to Redondo. I know I never got out of the car but I had assumed Stephen had checked if we could break in. I probably would...

The Contact bubble in his user info area has Private Message and Email enabled. Probably much safer, spam wise, for Mike to use this than to put his raw email on the web.

Re: Discovery Bay boat trip again

Great info everyone. I'm mainly worried about having to back down to submerged axels to get the boat off the trailer. It sounds like that might not be a problem.

I found a single picture of the launch area from the ground and it didn't look like there was much of a slope.

Re: Discovery Bay boat trip again

Having never done Discovery Bay before in my current boat what are the launch options like? My boat is a 22' pig on a bunk trailer so it's not that easy to launch. What do others do? At least those with something larger than a rib on a roller trailer.
