I decided to head to Redondo, and the wind doesn’t seem too bad right now. I’m hoping some folks show up to buddy up.

Re: Looking to borrow a transwhip
Here's a solution that has worked from me, when I couldn't find a transfill. Order 1 or 2 of the part: # 2F347 from from Grainger. They are $2.29 a piece (Male SAE 7/16"-20 to Male JIC 7/16"-20 Straight Hydraulic Hose Adapter Item # 2F347). The fitting is rated to 7500 psi. The fitting wil...

Re: Equalizing *After* Diving
On the drive home from a dive site, I often find myself popping my ears quite a bit. I just suspected it was because of habit to equalize and being more aware of the pressure differences. Irritation of the throat from diving might be worth considering. The gas we breathe is extremely dry, and there'...

Re: Scuba mask for a narrow face + large nose combo?
I have a fairly large nose and use a Deep Sea mask where the bridge on the nose is high - kind of like here: https://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-32/029245/Deep-See-Clarity-Scuba-Purge-Dive-Mask.html The one I use, I found on the ocean floor doing a dive off the coast of El Salvador. My mask seals bette...

Re: Cost for regulator service
Price is usually about $30 per regulator (1st or 2nd), plus $30 for each kit to overhaul each one. That makes $60 per reg, then multiple by 3 regulators per diving kit and it's $180. If you have 2 sets, then you're looking at $360. That cost really isn't too bad. If you were to get your car repaired...

Worthington High Pressure Air Compressor (Craigslist) $600
Deal of the day on craigslist - pump up your own tanks. I'm not sure what CFM this is (probably in the 3-6 range), or what the coalescer or filter system is like, but it looks promising. I'm in Auburn pretty close to Emerald downs. If anyone wants to carpool, let me know. If parking's a tight, I'll just drop my stuff at the main lot and park on Maplewild.

Yes, the Muncie Technique can be very effective. As a chiropractor, I've been trained and utilize the procedure. The technique requires a "manipulation" of the soft tissues at the Eustachian tube entrance, and it'll often open up and equalize air or drain fluid. The downside is that it inv...

What agreat and rainy day! Tom and I took a cruise to the trawler and saw two massive lingcods there (I didn't want to get too close) while circling it twice slowly and admiring the schools of fishes in the good viz. We meandered southerly to the base of the north wall and saw 2 large wolfies in the...

Wednesday 5/31, 5pm dive Redondo. Low tide (~0ft) close to slack/flood. Quite nice viz below 40ft- up to 15ft. Not great at the surface. We're coming off a spring tide phase into a neap tide. Yea!

Redondo 5/24 deep line. Murky, 5-7ft viz down to 45 ft. Then some slight improvements with max 10-12ft. Still fun and worth it in my mind.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Saltwater was really quite nice this morning below 50 ft. which opened up to 20-30ft. Above 50 ft it was a yucky 5-10ft.
In the afternoon below 50ft, viz was about 15-20ft. Top was the same as the earlier dive, not very nice.

Buddy up? Sunrise Beach - Shore Dive 5/19/17 (Friday)
Does anyone want to buddy up on a short-notice dive to Sunrise Beach tomorrow, Friday (a 11:30am walk & splash)? My buddy decided to go on a trip with his GF and forego the favorable currents. :BDub: We could do Fox Island West Wall (FIWW) first thing in the morning (9am), if you want. We could ...

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Saltwater 5/10, 5ft viz pretty much from the top of the south yellow buoy all the way to the bottom of it at 60ft, worse at bottom. It was a little better in the shallows, 10ft maybe. Redondo 5/10: 5-7ft viz top 40 feet, didn't venture deeper. There were mild out/down currents. Got in a 35 min dive ...

Re: Regulator Thoughts?
Since you already have Faber tanks with Pro/Din valves, go DIN. If diving a yoke for a trip, I'd prefer to remove the DIN from the 1st stage and put a yoke on. While using an adapter is fine, you might find yourself hitting your head on the 1st stage. I'd choose a 1st stage where I could make the sw...

Re: Regulator Thoughts?
Sounds like the Alpha is due for a service or a tune-up adjustment, it shouldn't breathe harshly. If it's been less than the mfg's recommended service time and not too many dives, it might just need the 2nd stage opened and cleaned with soapy water, including the vents. In my experience, when gettin...

Re: looking for a NiMH battery charger for Dive-X Sierra
http://www.volteq.com/switching-power-supply.html. You'd be surprised but in many cases batteries can be rejuvenated if done properly. Use an adjustable power supply and set your max current and max voltage. When the battery gets full, the current drops and the voltage stabilizes. You'll need the ba...

Has anyone recently upgraded their drysuit to a new one, and willing to sell their old functioning one at a reasonable price? This is for a dive buddy of mine looking for a used Men's drysuit. Size: probably in the range of M/L, (person is 5'10", 160lb, Shoe M11-12) not too tall and not too muc...
