Re: Water Depth Mapping Resource
Nice. It seems like the depths are from mean low tide (e.g. it shows Edmonds UW park as a max of 30 ft), but you can set an option to add an offset (+10 so 40ft)

What did you wear for exposure protection (e.g. your drysuit from here, rental wetsuit, etc)?

Re: Save Edmonds Underwater Park & Beach
An update from m: I wish I had good news from observing the Edmonds Council Committee Meeting tonight discussing the concrete overpass on the beach and funding for design/planning with Parametrix, but I don't. I left convinced that they are going to try and bulldoze a decision through for approval o...

Probably about that, but if the water gets (for example) 4 feet deeper, the rocks have to go out another 5 feet!
We turned around when we saw an orange-painted concrete block on the sand in about 54 fsw. We don't know, however, if it was put there as a turn-around marker.

Re: Keystone Jetty
Here is a new un-official crosssection of the Keystone Jetty at the deep end. https://nwdiveclub.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=34082 Diving the Keystone Jetty last Sunday made me curious about the structure itself. I found an Army Corps of Engineers report (p155-6) and created the mash-up a...

Bonaire: Flounder 'N Crab
In March, Nanci and I followed a founder and crab in Bonaire. I've edited what saw we into a 2-minute nature video.

Re: Bonaire: Crab & Flounder Mystery
Mystery solved! Thanks to club member Greg Jenson for looking at the video -- He is the author of a beautiful book on crabs and an e-book on flatfish, m Greg writes (shared with permission): Hi very cool. The crab is definitely on the hunt, probing the sediment for buried snails and hermit crabs. Th...

Bonaire: Crab & Flounder Mystery
Why would a crab chase a flounder? Why would the flounder chase the crab? Last month in Bonaire, we watched a Flame Box Crab and a Peacock Flounder chase each other. We watched for 10 minutes as they went back and forth. I got some of it on video: m Why are they behaving like that? They seem too eve...

Edmond UW Slinky: "No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'!"
To paraphrase Monty Python: "Look, matey, I know a dead Cabezon when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now." But we eventually figure out that he really is just "restin'". Two Kelp Crab stand guard. I note the Cabezon's claw-like spines. IMG_3028-2-Edit.jpg 25' viz today at...

Re: Bonne Terre Mine, Missouri
We enjoyed it but it is regimented. They take on you tours, on pre-defined trails, more or less in order. Also, it's only open on weekends and they ban (actually, just discourage, you carrying lights). In their defense, they get a lot of warm-water beginners. Also, I think keeping it dim and have a ...

Bonne Terre Mine, Missouri
On our way to a family Christmas in Peoria, Illinois, we stopped by the Bonne Terre Mine (an hour's drive from St. Louis) for two days of underground diving. Here are a few pictures, a short video, and links to more. 100 years ago, this was the world's largest lead mine. Now the site hosts tourists....

Edmonds Kelp Crabs and Friends
After more than a year, I finally figured out how to get good color video from my Canon GX7 II camera. Here is 85 seconds of clips from a Friday dive at Edmonds. Non-divers can see sea creatures tomorrow
If you have friends or family who don't (yet?!) dive, but would still like to see what's down there, have them go to the beach tomorrow. It's the lowest tides of the season and there will be Seattle Aquarium Beach Naturalist on hand. ⋅ Tomorrow, June 16, at 1:30 pm, the low tide will be -3...
