Re: Deception Pass night dive 9-21-15

Knowing the topography of the site definitely paid off. Old Jack said to hang in the cove before the bridge at night. The current at first was stronger than we expected, but we were able to hold on and climb into one of the eddies after drifting for a little while. We waited there for a little bit t...

Re: San Juan Island shore dives?

So sounds like Rueben Tarte was the most worthwhile and reasonalby easy dive? Has anybody done the Rosario wall by the hotel? We swam to it and dove it right in front of the building, cool but nothing to write home about. Later we were told to swim to the point and dive there instead. We intend to l...

Re: where to for orca encounters?

Thanx, Oldsalt! So you would recommend paddling from San Juan County park to the head of Reid Harbor? How many miles is it approximately? Heading out there in the next few days.

where to for orca encounters?

It's our dream to see orcas close up and personal. We got to see grey whales from a distance in Neah Bay, which was brief but pretty amazing. Any ideas? We have an inflatable kayak.

Re: saying good bye to a unique habitat.

Well the hotel people don't particularly like divers at the other Mukilteo site hogging the tiny parking lot and peeing in the bushes. With the new bigger better parking lot with a john available maybe its time to focus on building a decent reef there to replace the docks and open up more options fo...

I sure hope some of the old pilings are left. The only problem would be they will probably not be sticking out of the water enough for the muscles to grow. Food so delicious to the crabs and fish...

saying good bye to a unique habitat.

]Mukelteo oil docks. Over the years this man made structure has created a unique and interesting habitat for muscles, dungeons crabs and schools of rat fish. That is to say the least. We got to dive there one last time today and leaving not without a tear in our eyes. Hopefully the habitat will be r...

25 dollars for what????

Recently there is a word out about a significant fee increase for a night dive at Keystone Jetty. They supposedly upped it to 25 bucks. It still remains unclear as to 25 dollars a person? A party? Or a car? The site is amazing and a great training and photography grounds. Well, there is a warm indoo...

Re: Deception Pass

I'm aware of the eddy. In fact the third time i surfaced too early and was stuck at the point unable to surface swim to the beach past the kelp. I still hd 1500psi's after 30 min dive so i dropped down to 20 ft and pulled in on kelp. Surfaced at 5 ft on the beach. It's too bad the community is bashi...

Re: Deception Pass

8 or 10 is referring to the combined knots of ebb and flow on a particular time of day. 8 is better than 10.

See you at the next Waves Tides and Currents class!

Re: Deception Pass

The tourists are already impressed when they see me crawling out of the Pass or any other dive site for that matter. If i wanted to impress I would float in a whirlpool ...

Re: Deception Pass

So far by our calculations those 3 days and nights have decent flows. We are planning to do 2 dives on each of those dates, one on day and one on night since we just acquired 2 additional steel 80's. You all are welcome to join us on days or nights to dive , brainstorm, vent, support or bbq. Sounds ...

Re: Deception Pass

I respect your opinions and the recent huge loss to the community. Although allow me to counter the above mentioned "strikes". Strike one: we are intending to get the park's permission to dive the pass at night, just like we get a permission to dive Keystone jetty at night. Devalidated. St...

Re: Deception Pass

Well, I heard your opinions . I understand most divers here are not very comfortable with the Pass during the day let alone at night. What will most likely happen is we will go on a low exchange night having taken care of the logistics and assess the situation. The decision will be only made then. W...
