Yes I agree with Bay Goby.
Here is one I saw at Sund Rock, a bit south of where you were.

Re: your Christmas present
Just finished my first quick read-thru. Thank you! :notworthy: :partydance: What excellent pictures of the Threadfin. Great lighting. Great detail. And all the silt that was still on the bottom -- and not stirred up. Great technique and skill! Please consider offering a class through UW or Evergreen...

Sundrock CO Sole
I was cruising along out at Sundrock earlier this month when I glided over what looked like a flatfin tail sticking out from some vegetation. I swung back around and saw this. sm Sole CO_4835.jpg I tried to get a face-on shot. sm Sole CO_4837.jpg Cropped closer. sm Sole CO_4839.jpg Out in the open. ...

Re: Ratfish Attack!
I am not sure where I read it, but I recall reading that ratfish are the most abundant species of fish in Puget Sound, at the present time, from a biomass perspective. Many down deep -- where we use to have large numbers of Pacific Cod, walleye pollack and tomcod.

Re: Report on Ocean Acidification
Thanks for posting. One thing I find disturbing is that all the past predictions seem to be coming true much faster than originally predicted. The mouth of Puget Sound (Neah Bay) is ground zero for ocean acidification in the Pacific NW. It will be interesting if we divers can help detect changes in ...

Thanks for the feedback! Will correct.
Was looking at the size of the mouth on the second, but obviously not closely enough.
Two different greats on the same dive. When it rains, it pours. I will be interested to see if my encounter rate goes up.

...seem to sit in the 130-180 foot depth... I do a fair amount of diving at the 130-165' range using a nitrox backgas in my doubles, at the dive-appropriate percentage (~25-26%). Deco bottles to shorten the wait afterwards. Deco procedures and advanced oxygen (e.g., through a good TDI instructor) a...

Great Sculpin at Sundrock
I know what many of you are thinking: Great Sculpins are a dime a dozen where I dive...who cares about one at Sundrock. I encountered this individual (I am assuming it is a great) earlier this week down on the middle wall. First time I had seen one at Sundrock ever that I could recall. Looked it up ...

Yelloweye at Sund Rock
I was doing my normal Friday afternoon dive plan at Sund Rock yesterday. Splashed about 4:30 or so. Very low tide. Did a long surface swim out and dropped down about 80' or so. Continued down and hit a large set of boulders at about 155'. Much to my surprise and delight this individual was among the...

Re: WTB: Winter Undergarment
Also considering adding a 2nd hood-- maybe wearing a tropical beanie under your current one. A lot of heat is lost through your head. Reducing water exchange around your head, or adding more insulation there, can make a big difference. As the old camping phrase goes: If your feet are cold, put on a ...

Re: Spiny Lithoid Crab at cove 2
I ran into a spiny also, in a crack at Sund Rock. You are right about them being shy--when I first saw him he was out in the open. By the time I was in good camera range he was racing for shelter. Also a Puget Sound rockfish, which is common in other parts of Puget Sound, but a species I rarely see ...

Nudi ID question: white spotted Dendronotid?
I encountered this individual fairly deep at Sund Rock this past Friday. At first glance I thought it was a young Giant or maybe a red dendronotid, because I had seen those species here before. After studying it a bit closer I am not sure. After looking through Lamb's Marine Life and Behrens Eastern...

I am sure the solution is in front of me, but I can't seem to see it. Where do I go to reset my NWDC password? I set up this account on my admin setting, but will usually be logging in from my "non-admin rights" user account. Problem is, when I go to log into NWDC from that account, it doe...

blackfin Sculpin
I picked up this little guy at ~155 FSW at Sundrock. Based on Love's "Certainly More than you Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast", I am tentatively identifying this as a darkfin sculpin. Corrections or confirmation appreciated!
