Re: Water Rescue Report
Thanks for posting this, Chris. I was the other diver on the scene. My buddy, the original poster of this, did a good job recognizing a swimmer in distress. The man wasn't splashing, yelling for help nor did he seem to be struggling to keep afloat from the distance that we were at but there was some...

I love to hear it. Skyline is a great dive, certainly one that has to be planned carefully but worth it!

Re: Ling Cod slot limits - how's that working out for ya?
I watched 3 fish thrown back on opening day, all from very experienced divers and spearfishermen. One was 25" (one inch short of regulation size) and was instructed by the boat owner to be safe and throw it back. He did and then later shot a 30". I'm not seeing how that will help the popul...

Re: Sekiu Crab ID
Beautiful pictures! Where in Sekiu are you diving? Near the jetty / rocks? Shore diving? Thanks for sharing. Yep, this was right off the shore at the rocks to the west of the marina. I've been there several times with the kelp in during the summer, but I really enjoyed this dive in the winter. A la...

The headphones are snails right? But the odd nodules in the sea squirt are something I haven't seen before. Man Dusty2, you always come up with some great finds.

Wow again, thank you Greg. I learn a ton every time you chime in.
So is there a group higher up on the ladder that they are all a part of? Are they all blennies (together with the Wolf Eel?)

Why aren't Warbonnets and Cockscombs not Gunnels?
...and don't say "because they're pricklebacks"
Can someone explain to me in layman's terms whey these fish, which seem to be so gunnel-like, are not technically gunnels?

Cool, thank you Greg. I just encountered that issue today so now I know.Greg Jensen wrote:When the markings (star on Pisaster, white line on Evasterias) are missing, look at where the arm meets the central disk. On Evasterias they usually pinch in a little bit, and don't do that on Pisaster.

Ochre Sea Star Distinguishing Features
So, I'm looking at my books and my photos and I'm having a hard time telling if some of the star pics are Ochre Sea Stars ( Piaster ochraceus ) or False Ochre Sea Stars ( Evasterias troschelii ) . Does anyone have any distuingishing features to look for? Here's a bunch of pics that I'm trying to ID:...

I got nailed by him in the middle of the day on Saturday. He's hilarious and relentlessly protective of his nest. I was coming up on the tires and remembered this post then POW! There he was.

Re: Sekiu Crab ID
Thanks Greg. Here are a few others that I came across (just in case you would like to see them). Sekiu is a great winter dive 'cause the kelp is absent and lets you see the stuff normally hidden. A great place for invertebrate lovers. Puget-Sound-King.jpg Umbrella-Crab-2.jpg Umbrella-Crab.jpg Kelp-C...

White spotted was my first impression too but i didn't see any adult white spotted, only a ton of the same size juveniles like this one. Does anyone know if white spotted have any blue markings as juveniles?

Greenling ID
I'm having a tough time identifying this greenling. I saw TONS of them while diving yesterday at Pinnacle Rock, Sekiu and Salt Creek. There were LOTS of kelp greenling around, and then a bunch of smaller ones (about 4"-6") with very different markings. I think they are small Kelp Greenling...
