Re: Galloping Gertie footage wanted

Thanks Linedog for the question. Mainly I'm looking for footage of bridge parts that are still where they fell. Around the turn of the century, before the newest bridge was under construction, I spoke with a guy who was filming there, but I've since forgotten his name. I just did some googling, and ...

Galloping Gertie footage wanted

I'm doing a series of presentations like the one shown in the attached poster. The topic is the interconnectedness of our local ecosystem, including our human impact. I'm illustrating the topic with some underwater and above-water video from my archives as well as video and photos from other sources...

Call for photos/video for nearshore field guide

I’ll be conducting a workshop at a teachers' conference with a mockup of a mobile field guide I'm working on. This will be the kind of field guide that paper can't produce, a guide that will show you behavior of creatures (video), interactions between creatures instead of a separate page for each on...

Re: electronic control over DSLR?

Fordman, I don't need them to sell one to me. The forward-thinking camera housing manufacturer (if there were one) can order customized versions from them. Dusty, true, but a lot can be done without radio waves underwater. I certainly wouldn't mind having a touchscreen monitor/controller tethered to...

electronic control over DSLR?

I've been shopping around for an underwater housing for my new DSLR that replaces the video cameras I used since the turn of the century. There are many amazing choices out there, but I haven't found what I'm really looking for, so I'm tossing this out to see if anyone has any ideas. The biggest obs...

Janna,
if your camera ever breaks let me know. I have a G9 that I hardly ever use, and I might be talked into parting with it.

Connecting the Dots Underwater: Seeing the Stories Around Yo

I'll be doing a workshop at the Dive Expo in Tacoma on Sunday April 21 at 1:00 p.m. A feared benthic predator, the Sunflower Star creeps along the bottom. Those creatures who can, scatter. The long legs of the sea star crawl over the top of a slow moving keyhole limpet and flip it over. Just as thin...

Re: Looking for urchin footage

I found a shot of urchins, but I'd prefer a good shot of urchins and bull kelp together. I'm about to wrap this project up, but if you get something good this weekend let me know and I'll squeeze it in. Thanks for taking an interest in this.

Looking for urchin footage

I'm looking for footage of urchins eating (or adjacent to) bull kelp in the Salish Sea (Puget Sound or the Strait of Juan de Fuca or Strait of Georgia). This is for a short film about bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) restoration in Port Gamble, WA. The restoration is a nonprofit project and the fil...

Re: Looking for footage of herring roe on bull kelp

You're right, that is a USVH housing. It worked well for me, but now it's obsolete. I need to upgrade to an HD system of some sort...I'm leaning toward a next generation DSLR.

Looking for footage of herring roe on bull kelp

I'm producing a short film about bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) restoration in Port Gamble, WA. The restoration is a nonprofit project and the film is to assist with raising awareness about the issues and solutions, including showing people how much fun it is to get involved as volunteers. I'd pr...

This thing was maybe only 1/4 inch in diameter, but loooong! How long? It stretched from Edmonds to Des Moines. Well, not really, but for this skinny little guy 24 inches or so seemed like forever.

The Invisible Shoreline: a video tour

As we walk along the shoreline, we are surrounded by things we can't see. They are hidden below the surface of the water, beneath rocks, they are too small to see, or maybe they are processes that are too slow for us to see. But their presence is a key part of our environment. Join underwater videog...
