He swam back to 190 on the bottom came up to 80 did his transition even took the time to switch his computer. Problem was he did not have enough weight on him to stay down. He was on deco for some time and as he explained to me at one point he was head down swimming trying to stay down. And if you ...

Sorry, I may have missed something in a followup incident report but if we are talking about Kirby, I came away with the impression (and supported by his post here on NWDC) that it happened because he was narc'd and lost track of time and gas at depth and 'woke up' low on back gas and needing to do...

Global will do everything, probably your best bet. give them a call and they should be able to give you a quote as well. they are in Lake Stevens.Mateo1147 wrote:Not commercial but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a yacht. Wooden hull from 1944, 44' oal, ex navy boat.

Re: CCR
If you check on Rebreather World and CCR Explorer's you can find some good deals on a used manual CCR in the $4500 range. The big difference in a 8-12 and 4-8 mesh is the 4-8 has much less WOB. But it also has much less surface area for the reaction so does not preform as well as the finer mesh mate...

Is this area kind of a marshy lake in the trees or a lake? Their are several old coal mines that are flooded. the main sites of were the mines are are under water and they have a very good flow of water coming out of them. If you do venture in be careful. they have miles and miles of crisscrossing t...

There is not structure like that in the bay. They are most likely talking about the area to the south east of sail rock. But it is still a good scooter dive.

Was letting go of the ascent line to prevent the yoyo stop not an option? I have a strap for ascent line rest stops in high surge areas like Neah Bay. It's about 10 feet long and clips to me and to the ascent line. In the open ocean when we have high surge our last stop is at 30' to stay out of the...

Re: Always analyze your gas!
We had a tech instructor die recently in Florida on the Hydro Atlantic. I have not seen the official report, but the word is, he had his shop he works at fill the tanks with air. Problem was, somehow, that air turned into 36 percent. He convulsed at approx 165 feet and died shortly thereafter at th...

Re: Trimix vs rebreather
This is totally false. I even asked and verified with the company that I get my "welding gas" from. They confirmed that they totally vacuum out all incoming tanks prior to filling them. Do you have any idea of the liability of a company selling a bottle of O2 to a welder that was half ful...

remember, UHP is "laboratory" quality helium.. meaning you pay laboratory prices.. the regular helium and UHP goes through the exact same process here locally.. the only difference is that they claim to pull a vacuum before the transfer the UHP helium.. they actually do that anyways with ...

Re: Trimix vs rebreather
There is a welding blend of 25% CO2 / 75% argon - but they don't put helium in that. Their are lots of different blends that even include krypton, xenon, and radon depending on what you are working with. and then many welders themselves use different blends to do the same work. All depends on how t...

Re: Tank inspection classes
Ahh! That may be why in 50 years of looking at welding cylinders I've never seen a VIP sticker. Thanks. Welding tanks like bank tanks do not get immersed so they do not need inspected yearly. The heavy lift ROV has 2 HP bank tanks on it and they have to be VIP'd every year. They are the same tanks ...

Re: Tank inspection classes
Most people forget that there's no license anywhere or rules that say you have to VIP anything. It's a self regulating bit of the dive industry that may or may not be complete BS. You should make up your own opinions when you've had enough experience to form one. That said, the industry likes to se...

Re: Tank inspection classes
Certifications to VIP classes are not required to be accepted by anyone. Its the shop's compressor and they are perfectly within their rights to refuse to fill tanks VIPed or hydroed by anyone they decide. There's no requirement in law prohibiting tank or VIP discrimination. There are no "accr...
