Re: Antarctic Artists and Writers Program

If you need inspiration - check out Norbert Wu's work... crossed paths with him down at Palmer about ten years ago when he was filming on an NSF grant. Antarctica underwater (and up top) is one of the most amazing places left on the planet. The diving is incredible, too :)

Re: Lightmonkey Connector Fix - Advice Needed

Vetco (at 520 and Northup in Bellevue) has them in stock. There's two parts - the shell and the interior connector (which is silver plated). They come in several sizes. Super cheap.

I have some at home, but I'm on the road for work, or I'd just give you one...

Re: Cow Sink and Florida caves.

I love Cow Sink! Upstream and downstream are gorgeous! Beautiful video... and definitely impressed you did it backmount. The corkscrew on entry is a challenge...last time I was there, I watched a Russian dive team go in ahead of me, all backmount plus stages, and thought "this isn't going to be...

Heh. Dive gear express even has the whole shebang for $6. https://www.divegearexpress.com/inflator-service-tool-w-o-ring-kit Pictorial at the bottom of that page walks thru how to use it. More reason to always only use normal standard inflators on wings...no matter where in the world, they'll always...

Re: BCD Inflator

Fwiw standard inflators are really easy to service. It's a stock set of o-rings that are easily replaceable and they're basically all alike. Harbor freight has o-rig kits in Viton super cheap and picks. Deep Sea Supply sells a tool that is all you need along with a screwdriver and a new set of zip t...

Re: NITROX problems

My understanding is the Oxycheq sensor should be replaced annually even though I only do about 50 Nitrox tanks per year. Just replace it when it dies. Its not actually an oxycheq sensor its a Teledyne. They are fine and then drop off a cliff performance wise and you will be turning the dial way up....

Re: NITROX problems

It is a challenge to get my tank valves to give a slow steady flow. https://www.divegearexpress.com/trumix-4001-bc-hose-adapter-2-lpm-flow or http://www.northeastscubasupply.com/bc-flow-restrictor This snaps onto a BC fitting and guarantees a steady flow at an appropriate rate. For a little more, y...

Re: NITROX problems

Get the optional "fine" tuning knob, its worth the extra $. And to add... make sure you know how to use an O2 analyzer properly, too. Cells (sensors) do not register the percentage of oxygen in the gas. They register a value which corresponds to the partial pressure of oxygen only. So for...

Re: Tips and tricks for chasing drysuit leaks?

Hmmm... since I bought it, there has always been wetness on the left arm (*). I had left arm wetness for a long time in my DUI suit, and it frustrated the hell out of me. I swore it was the dump valve up and down. Turned out it was just the end of life for the zipper, although you couldn't really s...

WW2 Japanese Battleship found!

New wreck dive... :) Looks like Paul Allen and the crew on the Octopus found the Musashi in around 1000 meters of water off of the Philippines. It looks super cool in the video, although a little deep for the gear I own :) http://www.geekwire.com/2015/paul-allen-and-octopus-team-find-one-of-largest-...

Nope, not dove Scotland. I've been there, and had my share of fine whisky, but never had time in the other water-of-life, so to speak. But a wreck trip out to Scapa Flow has been on the bucket list for some time.

Re: Spring for Knighthawk

Try Amazon supply, which was the old SmallParts.com. Anything in 316 or 304 stainless of the approximate size should be fine. It just needs to fit into the groove inside the elbow. You could also just call up Oxycheq, Hog, dss, dive gear express, etc. Most of the springs in those dump valves are bas...

Mesh is "4-8"? Yeah. After forming the soda lime granules, they will pass through a mesh sieve of size 4 but be caught by a size 8. http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/chemistry/stockroom-reagents/learning-center/technical-library/particle-size-conversion.html has details of mesh size Most breath...

Re: Question for the rebreather divers

I go back and forth... had a rebreather for 12-ish years now, I think...grabbed it right after open water class, so 190+ of my first 200 dives were on a rebreather. I prefer rebreather diving to O/C. It's more comfortable, warmer, quieter, and frees me from worry about bottom time, depth limitations...

Manifolds get rebuilt at hydro time for me (every five years) unless they're leaking.

When I take the set apart each year to VIP the tanks, I replace the neck o-ring on each tank and the manifold crossbar o-ring.

Good deal on that, even with an overhaul.

I wouldn't even bother to fix the motor; I'd just throw a small single phase electric on there for $125...much nicer to the neighbors and you can run with your garage closed up in the evenings or early mornings.

Good luck being the first in line for it!

this is still an AWESOME deal IMHO as that titan reg is worth the price alone. buy it, sell the bottle for whatever and get a bigger one. How you figure, Wayne? One can get a Titan LX (brand spankin' new in the box) for $325 in DIN, or a bit less in yoke... They're a nice reg, parts kits are fairly...
