Re: Down the memory line

Jan this is great. Thank you so much for putting this up here. It is incredibly interesting to me, to hear of your travels, and of your beginning behind the iron curtain. It is a rare and valuable perspective.

Re: Dog shooting in Des Moines

This pisses me off. I wonder if the officers involved had any training in how to treat/recognize a frightened dog. I have been around dogs all my life, and have never seen a situation that required this kind of response, let alone a Newfoundland, which as a breed are about as dangerous as your avera...

Thanks Dave, that is a great website. There are an incredible amount of wrecks in the lake, I could make a career out of this.

Lake Erie

Melissa and I are heading to Cleveland for a wedding in July. We plan on taking our gear and checking out a wreck or two in lake Erie. Anyone on the board ever been there/have any suggestions?

Howdy Michael. You are going to have to drive past my house to get to the sound. Send a PM, maybe we can get together.

Re: Any reviews on Halcyon BCD's?

I have one. I can't find a single thing wrong with it. They cost a lot compared to the competition, though. If you can afford one you will be happy with it I think. Halcyon has great customer service, they stand behind their products. I did not like the weight pockets on the waist strap and went to ...

We stopped in there last weekend looking for Nitrox. They said they didn't have any (do they normally?), but got on the phone and called a competitors shop, gave us directions, and sent us on our way. I was impressed. Nice people.

Re: OR coast sea conditions, 30'-35' seas

If you don't want to take the boat out, why don't we do a night dive on the jetty. Extreme surge, take your seasick pills. Flying exit at the end. Does anyone have Mac and Jacks in Garibaldi?

Thanks for the replies, I think I will stop worrying, and take it apart on one of those 10 degree days this winter, hopefully that will be the end of it. It kind of bugs me to see it in there.

Re: Moisture in Test Tube

This morning the fog is gone. I haven't done anything with it. When it got here Melissa put it in the sink and turned it on. I'm thinking the heat and the cold water in the sink caused the fog. So there is a bit of moisture in the test tube, do you think this will do any harm to the bulb? Or is this...

Moisture in Test Tube

Recently I bought a used light. dive rite 10W HID. Even more recently I flooded said light, and sent it to dive rite for repair. Upgraded to h1000. Got it back, first dive, at about 35 ft it went out, light was flooded again! No problem, Dive Rite fixed it free, said the lid was warped, replaced sai...

Welcome. You sound like you are on your way to being a great diver! I'm sure you will find buddies to dive with here. Try posting a request in the Oregon divers section, and the dive planning section. There are quite a few folks that dive the Oregon coast, I'm sure you will find someone who can show...

Also over the 1 hour drive, but coldwater lake is 2493 ft. There is a boatramp at one end of the lake. I've been kind of curious to see whats down there.

Thanks for the report. I have a friend that hits winter harbour every year for the fishing, and I have wondered about the diving. Were air fills available anywhere close? This looks like a trip to put on the list.

Take a leather punch and put two holes on each side of the band you already have, right next to the computer, cut the rest of the band off, tie the bungee on threading it through the holes, save yourself some bucks.

Re: how i met my first (dive buddy)

I met my first dive buddy in the local swimming pool in my home town when I was 8 years old. I splashed his sister, and he said he was going to beat me up, but we became best friends instead. We both were fascinated with everything having to do with the sea. I got certified when I was 14, he at 16, ...

+1 for the glacier.

Human efforts to "improve" the environment haven't worked out so well, historically.

Maybe try to get the nitrogen levels down, first.

Re: Hood Canal dissolved oxygen at critical levels

Was the spot prawn small or large? I've seen plenty of smaller ones in the shallows year round, but it's unusual to see larger ones up shallow. BTW, it's normal for Sea cukes to have several of their feeding tentacles out, mopping up stuff off the ocean floor. What's unusual is when all 20 of them ...

Re: Hood Canal dissolved oxygen at critical levels

Do you have pics of what it looks like when the cukes are stressed? We were at sund yesterday, and I saw a cucumber with its "feathers" out. Not sure if this is feeding behavior or what. We saw rockfish at 95 feet suspended or sitting on the rocks. We saw a spot prawn in 30 ft, not sure if...

Bob My wife and I also went through this a couple times with bdub, and I think it is an extremely valuable thing to have ingrained in your head for every dive. To go through it again, could only help to solidify the math. We will try to make one of these, either Vancouver or Tacoma. Definitely Tacom...

Is there a specific scouting program through the certifiying agencies? The other dive shop I checked with said this would just be a group class, with a small discount.
