Re: Schrader valve cores

I don't know if this is important in your application, but schrader cores are made with different compounds in their sealing gaskets, different flow rates etc. In my previous life we had to use the manufacturers replacement to make things work right. I wouldn't think flow rate would be a big deal, a...

Re: Where does everyone else practice simple skills?

Richard are you talking about the pool in Olympia? How does one arrange to use that pool. We are making our first warm water trip this spring, and I wanted to play with bouyancy stuff before we go. I'm not going to try my 2.5 mil wetsuit at Sund rock, I won't do it!

Re: Hood Canal rain/flood watch?

Sometimes, when you cross the river heading north towards hoodsport the river is high and muddy, and I have said to myself it will be terrible. And it is, in the layer of fresh water on the top 20 feet, but a lot (most) of times it opens up under that, although you need a light, it will be dark down...

+1 for Wally's, you want a 1 piece if your going for the fish and chips, unless you are really hungry. Unfortunately, I have developed a wheat intolerance, and I will be giving the Thai place a shot. Thank's Lynn!

You used to be able to reserve dive days on the Point Lobos website. It would be worth checking. There is an awful lot of good diving there, and some of the best shore diving I have ever done. Are you taking the boat?

Re: Anyone deep fry a turkey?

The only time I ever did this, my bird turned out-breast perfect-delicious, legs and thighs way overdone, wings crispy cinderlike crunchy things. I never did it again as I don't like to waste anything. If I was to do it again, it would be cut up so I could get everything cooked just right.

Re: LP hose to compressed air tool adapter -- local retail?

I definitely wouldn't worry about pvc buried 24 inches. I have about 1400 feet of it buried 18 inches. I installed yard hydrants, which drain themselves when you turn them off, and that is all I do. Never had any problem, the buried pipe does not freeze. We used to have animals, so every three or fo...

Welcome Not too many members here from up on the Island. (we need to do something about that)I was born up there, moved to the states when I was 8, but still have friends up there, and visit now and again. I will definitely look you up when we next head up. All the diving I have done up there was on...

Re: LP hose to compressed air tool adapter -- local retail?

You could blow this out orally enough to ensure no problems. Water freeing in pipes will do no harm as long as there is room for the expansion. Problems usually happen when it freezes in two places and then as the middle freezes and expands it has to break something. If you have a simple straight pi...

Re: Shops in the area that fill using a water bath

This is an interesting subject. I keep hearing about the water bath causing water problems inside the tank. This could only happen if there were water somewhere on the whip or the valve before the whip was pressurized, otherwise the pressure differential would keep the water at bay. Can the higher t...

In the summer, I like to try after several days of overcast. No or light rain. Sometimes I get lucky. If its crap stay close to your buddy, move slow and enjoy the small critters.

Re: Anderson cooper more daring than i?

Maybe not prey, but are they territorial? I think I'll wait and see. They have been known to wait at known river crossings for prey including people, so their feeding behavior can be modified by environmental changes. I don't want any part of teaching them how yummy divers are!

Re: Interesting article from John Chatterton

It seems to me that what he said was that if someone tried to take his reg, or tried to jump him for it, on a deep dive that he would fight you. This to me is not unreasonable. At the depths he is talking about this divers training has failed, he has slipped into panic, and is a huge risk that must ...

I take mine to a CPA also. While I used to be quite adamant about doing them myself, a friend twisted my arm till I said uncle, and I gave the CPA a try. I can tell you, if your taxes are anything more than simple, the pros will save you money. I am quite sure the guy I hired IS the guy who handles ...

Never tried it myself, I have a neighbor who used to do some crabbing and spearing along the jetty. He has a great story about the ebb tide there. I don't think his wife will let him dive there anymore.

How is your upper body strength? Maybe diving from a RIB would be a possibility? I find them easier to get into than (most) ladders anyway.
