Re: Monday Night at Redondo
We were there a couple of hours earlier, apparently too early or just in the wrong place for the lumpies, but we had a great time anyway. Kathy found the smallest pipefish I've ever seen, plus lots of the usual suspects. We were actually there to get her an octopus fix, and if you're at Redondo and ...

Re: Sea star die-off
Probably at least 30% of the sea stars we saw at Cove 2 yesterday were either dead or well on their way. I counted at least four different varieties.

Re: Ratfish Attack!
+3. Trying to grab one is not too bright, and violates just about everything that we divers preach about interacting with underwater life. I've never been finned by one, though I see plenty of them at Three Tree, and once watched an amazing "feeding frenzy" under the Edmonds Oil Dock back ...

Re: Not A Never Ending Saga I Hope
Sounds like scuba could be on the near horizon; I was able to get back to it after my surgery by having my buddies carry my gear to the water and putting it on there, where there was basically no weight on my spine. You might think about trying that...

Re: Ain't Gonna Be Diving For A While
The good thing about this particular carcinoma is, it stays localized. It doesn't break off and go invade other parts of the body like some cancers do, so when it's gone, it's gone. And they used what's called Mohs surgery, where they section and examine the tissue as it comes out, especially the ou...

Re: Ain't Gonna Be Diving For A While
It was actually a surgery. I've had a little nodule thing on the side of my nose up near my eye for as long as I can remember; turns out it was a basal cell carcinoma. So I went to a dermatologist on one side of Tacoma at 7:30 in the morning so she could remove it using a special technique to make s...

Re: Dive Accident in Nanaimo
It's hard to find any "good" news in an event like this, but I'm encouraged that someone found the missing diver's body. At least now his loved ones have a better chance of dealing with the tragedy.
And by all accounts, the response of the rescue crews and other officials was phenomenal.

ID'ing an Unlucky Fish
The markings on that tail look familiar, but I can't seem to put it together. I'd like to ID the loser in this little encounter, and I'm hoping there's enough tail left showing for us to figure it out. On a side note: this was my first time actually seeing a fish in the process of eating another. On...

Excellent situational awareness and execution of rescue! I wonder why he decided to jump in the water to begin with?? That's easy. It looks like a text book case of "Instant Idiot. Just Add Alcohol." Very well done, guys. Though, from the description, I wonder if he has any clue what you ...

Saturday 9/21/13 the viz at Three Tree North was amazing. A good 50' all the way down to 78 fsw (as deep as we went).
