Re: ID for me?
It's a Heath's dorid, Geitodoris Heathi These guys come in several shades from yellow to tan. The way to know on these is the gill plumb is white. If it were a sea lemon it would be yellow Also one of the best ways to ID a Heath's is the fact that they look really flat, like rolled out dough. It's ...

Re: Nudibranch ID Help - From California
Yeah the Hiltons aren't actually that common (at least in Monterey area) So they, along with the Hopkins Rose, became my personal favorites because of the beautiful colorings. Great finds. ^_^

Re: Adult tidepool sculpin or different?
I thought we identified that one as silverspotted. Were we wrong? Maybe there was confusion since the pic looks so bad. *cringe* That was from my early days of diving and I hadn't gotten the hang of how to alter pics to look more natural yet. Also, it was Les Davis right off the steps when we were h...

I'm just curious, has anyone ever seen these birds at EUP? Or are they strictly Whidbey Island birds?

Re: Now There's Something You Don't See Every Day, Chauncey
Hehe the secret is: I didn't XD. That first one was sitting on a line of kelp that ran all the way up to the surface and that was the only time he EVER stayed put long enough to get a picture so that is the only pic we have of him, which really upset me at the time since I wanted a side shot for my ...

Thanks. I was goin after the poacher, who of course wouldn't sit still, then the sculpin shot in there practically yelling 'Wait for me! Wait for me!' He blocked the poacher's path, so I obliged him lol

Re: Fish are food, not friends if you're a bird! Fish ID Quiz...
I have no clue about the first one, but I agree with the others on the rest. The sculpin is probably scalyhead, they're the most common. The perch is rather obvious to ANYONE who dives lol. The fourth I'm fairly certain is a mossyhead. If there's a clearer pic of that one, I could probably ID it bet...

Re: Lingcod vs. Octopus???
I don't know, but that looked more to me like the Lingcod was trying to find a place to hide, found that hidey hole already occupied, so he just kept going. If he was attacking, I'm sure there would have been teeth. After all, he came in from behind the camera. That would suggest running from you gu...

Re: grunt eggs?
Yup. There's eggs there all right. Grunties do it smart. They find little hidey holes and block the way to their little ones. Here's one we found last year. I'm pretty sure it was on a boat dive on one of the walls, but don't quote me on that. Either way, this guy was way back in a crevice and his e...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
I know first hand that those tentacles can still be live after detaching. *shiver* I ran face first into what seemed to be an invisible one on a boat dive at the pinnacle. It was like a sudden lance of electrical shock right across my lip. I looked around to see, but there wasn't a single jellyfish ...

Lol wow that was freaky. Was the Sole actually moving INSIDE the Frogfish?
I thought the Frogfish looked more like a cat with the way it was stalking the Sole lol.

Re: Warbonnet World!
We finally found not one but TWO Decorated Warbonnets! The best part is that they were both at the Titlow Pilings. It was awesome, this first one actually shot out into the open, but of course, before we could get any pics, he took off and made sure we couldn't follow, lol. But I have these two pics...

ID help
Found this Greenling at around 15-18 fsw at Titlow yesterday. He kept charging at us, so naturally our first assumption is that he was guarding eggs. We can't ID him to save our lives, mostly because of the white stuff on his head. My first thought is that Ich stuff or some other kind of disease bec...
