Found this guy with both ends stuck in the sand. Dwashbur and I were looking through the Andy/Lamb book and our best guess is a Sweet Potato Sea Cucumber. Any other ideas?

One for Leslie
Found this comin out of the ground near the Metritium (Spelling?) Field near the Monterey Bay Pipeline. I don't remember how big it was, but it was several inches and sticking right out of the ground. At first I thought it was a Brittle Star arm since there were several around, but upon closer inspe...

More unknown critters
A'righty here we go. First, I have no clue what these are, but I found them on the Pipeline at the Monterey Breakwater about a week ago. There was a cluster of about six or seven of them, the biggest about one and a half inches. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/chenari/Scuba%20Diving%20pics/IMG...

Isopod help
Found this Isopod today at Point Lobos here in Cali today just a couple inches under the surface. He was probably about two inches long. Also if you look closely next to his antennae in the third picture, there's another Isopod next to his head. It'd be interesting if anyone could ID him too. http:/...

Critter from a while ago
Ok I've had this guy's pic sitting on my compy for months and haven't really tried to ID him till now. I don't remember the depth, but I'm fairly certain he was one we saw at Les Davis. Any ideas?

Awesome Giant Dendro videos you HAVE to watch!!!!
Filmed today at the Monterey Bay Breakwater right near the rocks by Moi of course. A very pretty Giant Dendro swimming away from the eggs it was laying to escape the nasty clutches of the dreaded Sunflower Star. Watch closely and you can see when the eggs detach from the Dendro. Filmed I think aroun...

Mystery critter
Ok this guy was at the breakwater in Monterey a while ago. I don't remember the exact day, but it was at night. I never ID'd the critter and I've looked through two reliable fish books just to find nothing. Help?

Re: Another itty bitty nudi!
You know, looking closely at the texture and how those black bits are attached....... I personally don't think it's a nudi. It almost looks like a small bunch of eggs with something stuck on it.

Re: A whatzit for the experts
Judging on the shape and fuzziness, my guess would be a very gunky Oregon Triton. Was it flat like a Chiton or round like a snail?

The plain spot on his back with just the bumps is natural. No missing cerrata. Great find, buddy!
Nice little Hermit in the first pic too.

Re: Interesting "Critter" behavior!
Well with all these large critter stories, I feel that I should tell my most recent story from the Dolphin up at Port Townsend. I found a very nice male Scalyhead at the base of one of the Pilings and was trying to get a picture of it. ADD person that I am, I noticed a slight movement to my right an...

Marine Biology
As most on this site know, I'm changing my major to Marine Biology instead of Theater. I'm having a bit of trouble here in Idaho, though. The local university doesn't have a Marine course. So I was wondering if someone on here could let me know what sorts of things I'll need to get the degree I want...

Eep! I'm stuck!
Found this Penpoint Gunnel under a rock at Point Hudson the other day on our first dive near the wreck. He was sticking his head up out of the ground and just sat there with his mouth open. It allowed me to get a really great shot.

Then how do you tell that Lingcod eggs are dead? From what I've seen, they're always opaque.

Re: Shrimp ID?
The first is a Stiletto Shrimp. They're either Green or Red. You can tell them from the side by the blue spots all over their bodies. From the top it's easy to tell them by a beige stripe that goes from the tip of their rostrum to around back behind their eyes.

Cool pics from Redondo
Went for an awesome dive at Redondo yesterday. The viz was absolutely wonderful, we all agreed it was probably 40 feet. We saw a few really cool things. Here's the coolest pics. Found a little Painted Greenling hiding under an Anemone. I think it's a Rose, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway. I was a ...
