whidbey island diving?

Hey all,
I just moved to Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor, specifically) and left almost all my "regular" dive buddies behind in Renton...so, now I'm looking for any guys who know Whidbey and won't mind showing me around a bit up there.
So...anyone diving whidbey on a regular basis?
Cheers

Re: Hello from Whidbey Island

Hi there!
What part of the Island are you on? I moved to Oak Harbor a month ago and am searching for dive buddies and spots to go and play.
Cheers!

Re: diving in Puerto Rico?

Thanks spatman and HydroGirl! I'll check out the sites and let you'all know how it was...at 300 bucks a week for a house on the beach I really can't complain if the diving isn't stellar, eh?

Re: Is it worth it?

Hey I'm going to be on Maui the 20th, maybe we can hook up and do some shore diving. :partydance: It is a trip with my Wife so probably one day will be all. I have dove a few sites on Maui. I'm willing to share and also needing a buddy, wifey won't let me solo. Doug i'm going to be in the kaanapali...

Re: Is it worth it?

right on, thanks. That's what I need to hear. I have a limited budget for diving over there - frankly this is a 'family vacation' and I promissed my wife that I'd spend more time on the surface with her and the kids than I would spend underwater harrasing the marine life, so we had to agree to limit...

Re: Is it worth it?

Sounds awsome. I found after my first couple of dives in Cozumel I'd do the same thing...let the DM know I was going to drift off a bit and just enjoy. Made for a MUCH more rewarding dive experience.

Re: Is it worth it?

Just my bias; but I can't imagine "diving" in an aquarium when the real thing is so close by. Why should we settle for a tourist trap kind of thing when we can experience the ocean and its' creatures? The only real lure to the aquarium thing was the '100% guarentee of shark encounters', w...

Re: Is it worth it?

We took the charter over to Molokai to Dive with the hammerheads a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty cool, saw about 30 Scalloped Hammerheads and had a cool encounter with a 8-9' gray reef shark that hung out with us. Makena/5 Graves Black Rock Mala Pier Red Hill Those are the ones I would make su...

Re: Is it worth it?

I enjoy both shore and boat dives, just trying to figure out where it's best to spend the little bit of 'dive money' I've got to play with! Orriginally I was debating between the Maui Ocean Center (300 bucks to jump into the aquarium) vs two boat trips...sounds like boat trips will give me all that ...

If you get sea sick though, it will be a long trip to the site.

No seasickness, thankfully. How long is the ride, do you know off hand? Pretty impressive sighting rate! Dang...that just might make it worthwhile...

Re: Is it worth it?

How 'reliable' are the hammerhead and reef sightings over there? Is it pretty common or a totally 'who the heck knows' kinda deal? I'd LOVE to see some, as long as they aren't particularly hungry... I'll be staying near black Rock and I've got the mala pier on my list. There was a bay up north (the ...

Re: Is it worth it?

I'll jump on the "shore dive" bandwagon. You will see turtles, probably sharks, and most of the reef fish that you will see from the boats. If the surf isn't high, the visibility near shore is generally very good. I love the Mala Pier dive, which isn't too far from you (Lahaina). It's 45 ...

Again, read my trip report :) and look at the full set of pictures here: Maui 2009 B&B scuba for the tanks. It is in Kihei however. http://www.bbscuba.com/content/maui-dive-gear-rental Great folks. I dove the molokini crater itself a few times. Awesome viz typically. But the viz at Lanai is sim...

Re: Is it worth it?

DBrown and I will be there Oct. 30 for a week. Who are you boat diving with? we're going to be there from Oct 22 to November 5th, in Kaanapli, don't have anyone really hooked-up for dives, just been searching the web for rates and what-not. Got any recomendations for me? I've never done Hawaii befo...

Re: Is it worth it?

Where'd you find the deal on tank rental? We are staying at Kaanapali (Oct 22 through Nov 5th) and the 'local' shop at the hotel won't rent gear - will only rent a Dive Master to offer a 'guided tour of the underwater world'...for 55 bucks. OUCH. 35 for 10 tanks, I'm all over it! What's the Molokini...

Is it worth it?

So...I'll be in Maui in a few weeks, planning a few dives, but dang it's expensive! So...not too many; sadly. Buuuuut I did find out that for about 300 bucks my wife and kids can watch me take a header into a tank full of sharks at the aquarium. Figure 20 to 30 critters, everything from reef sharks ...

Man, I loved Edmonds dock...such a sad day when that was yanked. I checked-out that shop, looks worth renting a car, much better prices than the 'on site dive shop' at the hotel we are at, thanks for the info! I'll get some good pics (hopefully a shark or two, for 200 bucks I can jump into the shark...

You could try to stuff yourself into an extra suitcase and sleep on the beach...I mean, it's not great, but it's an option, eh?

Advice on diving in Ka'anapali?

Hey all, I'm heading to Maui in October for a couple of weeks, and while it's not a 'dive trip' per se, I do plan to do some diving over there....any good shop recomendations or 'must see' sites? I am staying at the Ka'anapali Beach Club, got in touch with the 'on site dive operator' to find out tha...
