Keystone, March 25

Got in my first dives in more than six weeks yesterday morning. I wanted to hit the early morning slack, which meant in the water no later than 7 AM. So I had to drive around over Deception Pass, since the ferry doesn't start running that early on Sundays. Got there around 6:15 and in the water just...

Re: Redondo: where did all marine life go?

You have to know where to look, but there is always something to see at Redondo. I always find things in the bottle fields, often hiding inside of the bottles and other detritus. Also, there are some known locations for juvenile wolfies ... they're not always "home", but the chances are pr...

Re: Current Cabo Pulmo dive shop recommendation

I'm going to be down there in May, but my trip's going to be a bit broader. Fly into SJD, hop on a liveaboard for nine days out to the Socorros, then when we return will be renting a car in Cabo and driving the length of the Baja, leaving the car in Tijuana and heading over the border to San Diego f...

Re: Places to eat after diving?

I knew I was going to love this group! Food and diving and are two favorite activities. For the dive sites along Ruston Way in Tacoma, the Fish Peddler (Pacific Seafood) has great fish and chips or coconut prawns and decent beer selection. They are on Dock street in the old Johnnies Seafood place n...

Re: Always Dive with a Buddy?

The mantra of "never dive alone" makes sense if you put some context around it ... things like assuming you have an adequately skilled dive buddy who would be able to help you out if you encountered a problem (many dive buddies are more a liability than an asset in times of trouble) ... or...

After Sund Rock I like El Puerto de Angeles ... the Mexican restaurant right next to Hoodsport n Dive. One of my favorite post-Redondo places is Wally's Chowder House near the Des Moines Marina. It's also a fantastic place to go after a day on Ocean Quest, since it's right up the street. Alki post-d...

Thank you Laura ... and I'll add my voice to "please be gentle and considerate". I'm convinced the last octopus mama in that location died prematurely because she was "loved to death" by all the diver traffic (including me, unfortunately). She's stressed enough during the final c...

Re: Build a reef at Redondo

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between the existing reef structure and junk. I'd like a diver elevator at the end of the fishing pier. And, the elimination of fishing. :) I'll trust that's humor, because positioning the diving community against the fishing community would be a losing proposi...
