Re: Harper Pier / Barbara G
We could put the cinder blocks on the boat and bring then around from Manchester? Then just drop them at the SMBs. Easier than walking them down the bulkhead and across the shallows until they can be floated. The boat can carry 12 to 15 cinder blocks no problem (just not that many divers at the sam...

Re: Harper Pier / Barbara G
Along the same lines as what you were thinking Richard.... First dive 1 - Run a line from the Pier to the Barbara G 2 - Backtrack along the line and shoot SMB's at the intervals where we want the cinder blocks located Surface 3 - Tow the blocks out and drop them near our SMB markers. We could either...

Re: Harper Pier / Barbara G
Yeah the grumpy husband of the coffee shop lady committed suicide a year or so ago. Still only space for about 3 cars though and there might be a class going on. The lady is actually really nice but he was a real piece of work. Our friends are their next door neighbors. I will bring cinder blocks a...

Sounds good! - You can park at the dead end of the private street that parallels the waterfront, our friends own that property.CaptnJack wrote:The 10:05 gets you to Harper about 10:55 (its only a mile from Southworth) Assuming its on time.

Re: Harper Pier / Barbara G
We'll probably take the 10:05 Fauntleroy - Southworth ferry which has a stop at Vashon so how about 11:30?
I'll bring the line is there anything else we need?
Jared, if you're out there and see my 4Runner drop by and say hello.

Its 55 deg or so from the light post at the seawall. I don't know the heading from the end of the pier. Easiest thing to do would be to wait until the pier is open to the public and walk out to the end with a GPS. How thick is your line Bill? I was thinking roughly 1/4" rope held down with cin...

Re: Harper Pier / Barbara G
If you're available this Saturday (3rd) I could help you put the line in. We're visiting Friends that live on the waterfront directly in front of the Barbara G.
I could also donate about 400 ft of line.

Re: Anyone teaching recreational sidemount in the Puget Soun
Sorry for the slight highjack, but I have a question. When diving a side mount system, do you switch regs as the pressure drops in each tank? Yes to balance out the consumption. Which reg you start out on and how often you switch is not a universal thing though. People have their own thoughts on th...

Re: Viz Reports Thread
EUWP - 12/3, 7pm - about 10 ft of vis. Just an FYI... It was a zero tide heading into a minus one when we splashed so vis was murky. It would probably have been better at a higher tide. Note to self - don't dive Edmonds on a low tide - We were in ankle deep water for a good distance past the jetty. ...

Re: My car got totally sprayed with salt water
We were supposed to head out and dive the Shilshole barges....... We ended up diving the Corsair in Lake Washington. Nothing really exciting to report - vis was actually pretty decent at 10 - 15 foot and I saw a crayfish the size of a small lobster. Just for future reference - 2/3rds of the line out...

Go big or go home- I can dive to 100 meters (hypothetically).

Re: Staying warm in the parking lot?
I've been contemplating to adapt a portable hair dryer and plugging it to the drysuit inflator through something like a BCD rinse hose, to fill the suit with hot air. Has anyone tried this or a similar idea? The main concern that comes to mind is to avoid sparks from the dryer burning small holes i...

I just focus on all of the positives of winter diving:
- Great vis
- Great current windows
- Ample parking at the divesites
- Less yahoo's at the boat launch and on the water

Yep - Faber LP 95's
At $175 they are a steal. The valves and bands alone go for that.

I have a Liquivision Xen and have about 300 dives on it. Pro's: Nice bright display. Cons: Everything else Where do I start....... The Xen is the most unreliable piece of diving equipment that I own. The main issue revolves around the battery and power management. First off the battery is $10, is sp...

The guys at Flashback Scuba in Tacoma has a pretty good collection of vintage diving equipment and may be interested in acquiring the tank. At a minimum they will be able to tell you what you have.

They are fun to scooter but I don't know anyone swimming all three in 1 dive. Navigating via scooter is a bit iffy, esp the horizontal to vertical barge leg (of the triangle) which is the longest. At one time we had a line out there connecting all three wrecks, but I'm sure its long gone now. Is th...

I carry 12 gallons. With a 60hp 4 stroke its stupid overkill. I went from Deception Pass ramp to the Black Dragon and back on 9 gallons. Port Angeles to the Diamond knot and back is about 3.5 gallons for me . If you have a 4 stroke 40hp stick with 6 gals and save the space and weight. If you have a...

We did the Shilshole Barges this morning - Unfortunately I woke up with a nasty head cold so I volunteered to tend the boat. Hope you feel better soon! How are those barges? I've never done them before. This would have been my first time on them.. but they look really cool on my structure scan :-) ...
