Re: I wanna Backplate
Call ahead, Matt usually orders them for people and sometimes doesn't have them in stock. But, seriously, you can't go wrong with a SS plate, 35 pound torus wing package for diving around here. Weight plates are nice, but not needed, you can just thread some XS Scuba weight pouches on the cam bands...

Alki Cove2 Tuesday Night Oct 07
Yo, A few of us UTD/DIR wannabees are heading to Cove2 in Alki tomorrow night at 6:00 for whoever wants to join. All are welcome. We plan on hitting the water around 6:30-6:45 depending on how much we flap our gums. I have no doubt there will be plans to meet for adult beverages and sea stories afte...

Re: Tank Factors
Ugggh . . . over thinking buddy. Make it simple: 1 minute at depth, 2 minutes to get to 50 feet. 5 minutes to get to the surface. Call your average depth half of 100, or 50. 50 is 2.6 ATAs: 8*2.6*2*1 This is really 8 times 5=40, or 700 psi on your doubles. Oh if there' s a way to overcomplicate it ...

Re: Tank Factors
Arrrr this is much more interesting than what I'm doing at work. Twin 100's with a tank factor of 6. Question 1: Two divers each with an RMV of 1 is 2 ft3/min. * 1 minute at 100 ft to deal with the emergency * 2 cuft/min * 4 ATA = 8 ft3 * 1 minute to get to 70 feet * 2 cuft/min * 3 ATA = 6 ft3 * 1 (...

In leiu of an expert I (as someone who enjoys procastinating at work) will weigh in. Please know that I am of course a total gas management neophyte... and my dive buddies can attest I'm prone to bending over and talking out my bum. A (GUE) tank factor as far as I understand it is how many cubic fee...

Where the is this place - other than be presumably south of Three Tree North? Current sensitive? Deep? Any thoughts, comments...??? How to get there? Thanks for checking this post. Babs, I've done 3TN twice and enjoyed it greatly each time. The current picked up on us pretty good last time (at a re...

Thanks Spatman for that link to the not so long ago thread on this subject, it was very helpful. :supz: The whole part about being streamlined, having your weight distributed, and the simplicity of the set up just really appeals to me. For some reason I think I'll miss the pockets, even though I ha...

Re: What's the advantage of a BP?
In fact you can spend a few days here and Scubaboard reading the pros and cons of a bp/w. There are cons? Scott Maybe some people enjoy having a bazillion pockets? Could be that you're really into lime green dive gear? Or you take a lot of PADI classes that require that you don and doff your BC at ...

Re: What's the advantage of a BP?
I couldn't agree more with Airsix... if you show up at a Tuesday night dive and quietly mention you are thinking about trying a bp/w... you'll find yourself buried under a pile of people's loaner gear like when Elmer Fudd opens his closet (that bowling ball always seems to be on the top shelf for so...

Re: Drysuit certificaton
I'm a proud certified PADI drysuit diver... because it was free. When I bought my suit from my Boston LDS the dude threw in the course for everyone that bought a drysuit from him. I learned little to no skills that help me in my diving life in that class. Nothing about how to vent during an ascent o...

I believe there is some lore about yoke valves not being worthy of high pressure cylinders... no? And DIN is preferred when you've got a high pressure tank? More old non gender specific spouse tales include questioning the reliability of yoke valves vs. DIN... Is there any truth to this nonsense I'v...

Re: New Sea Creatures - Australia
I don't know about new species but I spent a week diving off of Heron Island last year. Most diverse reef life I've ever seen. The diving was so good my head fell off. Everyone should go before the reef dies in 40 years (so say the national park rangers on the island). See ancient turtles lumbering ...

Jim, I'd be happy to show you around the dive park on Monday (9/8) if you like. PM me. Do you have your own gear? Jim...
