Drysuit seal latex "melting" ? Shops to rent drysuit from?

Hi all! Has anyone ever had a drysuit seal "melt" before? My dad and I were gearing up for our dive this morning and he realized his neck seal was mysteriously degrading into tar-like goo. He thinks some kind of substance must have gotten onto it and caused a chemical reaction but I think ...

How do you store and travel with your photography equipment?

How do you guys store your lights and camera? Additionally, how do you protect everything when traveling via airplane? I have been looking at different carry on cases for photography equipment but they all seem so expensive. I am flying to Indonesia in a couple of months and want to make sure everyt...

Re: 2 lower power strobes vs 1 high power strobe

Thanks everyone, I went with the Z240s and a Kraken Hydra 5000s+ video light. I think I'll start with one strobe to make learning easier... the huge variety and complexity of lighting, lens, housing, arms, clamps, etc etc is overwhelming! Taryn, I have about both (2) smaller strobes and (2) larger h...

Re: best beginner camera? (looking @ G7x iii vs TG6)

Beginner camera TG-6 hands down. And you can take it to the stratosphere. Throw in a tray and at least one strobe and you've got a really good rig. Perfect, my new TG6 will be delivered tomorrow :) I also have a tray, video light, and strobes on the way. Can't wait to try everything out! Another vo...

Re: 2 lower power strobes vs 1 high power strobe

Thanks Greg, I decided to go with the 2 lower power strobes. By saving so much money on strobes I can afford a better video light anyways (: Looking at the Kraken Hydra 5000s+ right now unless there are suggestions for better video lights for $600 or less. If I have anything left in my bank account ...

Re: best beginner camera? (looking @ G7x iii vs TG6)

Ill have to read more about the settings on the TG6. Beautiful photos Greg & Derek. I just ordered the TG6 and housing! Super excited. For strobes I got a great deal on a pair of Inon Z240s. I'm also going to get a Kraken Hydra 5000 video light. I need to get a double handle aluminum tray. Any r...

Wow, that macro video looks incredible. Yes, this is the Taryn in Bellingham who used to work at Gone Diving! Hi! (I also used to work at Washington Divers, but that only lasted a couple months for obvious reasons if you're familiar with that shop)

best beginner camera? (looking @ G7x iii vs TG6)

Hi friends, I've recently graduated college and before going to graduate school for marine biology I want to get into underwater photography. Of course I'm on a budget. I want to mainly shoot macro but would like to be able to shoot quality video as well. Being on a tight budget, the 2 cameras I'm t...

2 lower power strobes vs 1 high power strobe

Hi friends, I am trying to get into more advanced underwater photography (been shooting with a Canon D30 PowerShot for the last 2 years...). I am on a budget and need to buy a new camera as well as strobes. I am mostly interested in macro but would also like to be able to do some wide angle shots. A...

Belize or Honduras?

If you could go on a scuba trip to either Belize or Honduras, which would it be? I'm planning a dive vacation and would love some advice. Obviously price will be the main factor with amount of nudibranchs and octopus coming in a close second.

Re: Animals at Salt Creek, Port Angeles

We've dove there about 6 times now and never was the visibility so poor and the current so nonexistent as yesterday's dive. That being said, visibility here is usually awesome so poor vis here is good vis elsewhere. We dove this on a high tide too; maybe that contributed. We always check tides befor...

Animals at Salt Creek, Port Angeles

Yesterday I got to go diving at my favorite site again- Salt Creek near Port Angeles. I always see something new here and the abundance of invertebrates is always incredible. All the rocks are absolutely covered in life and the sponges are so beautiful and colorful. I love this place! I thought I'd ...

Strangely colored Stubby Rose Anemone

I believe these photos are of species Urticina coriacea , the stubby rose anemone, but I've never seen any this green before. I'm adding a couple bonus photos of a brooding anemone, Epiactis prolifera , (I believe) that I found tide pooling yesterday. It had babies of all sizes on it :) Are my IDs c...

Re: Diving Hawaii Big Island

Thank you everyone. I've been snorkeling on the big island before and two step was by far our favorite. We also really loved diving 69's beach. We plan to use Jack's :) We are staying at the Wyndham Kona resort I believe. Are there any shore dives that have soft corals or sponges as food for nudibra...

Diving Hawaii Big Island

Hi friends, I'm going to the big island next week and am very excited. Do you have any shore dives you would recommend? I really want to see some nudibranchs but I haven't found any good information on where to find them. Seems like here you can see nudibranchs at almost every dive site, which is on...

Re: What kind of cephalopod?

Wow, it does look like those. But it swam just like a squid or an octopus and it had two long tentacles and several shorter ones. And if you look very closely I think you can see the chromatophores.

What kind of cephalopod?

Saw this adorable baby cephalopod today. I believe it is a market squid hatchling but I'm not sure. I saw it in only about 3 feet of water swimming around with the plankton. They are less than a centimeter long! It was attracted to my light which made photographing the little fella a bit easier. It ...

Re: Dives near Bellingham (Keystone Jetty, Rosario?)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I didn't see until after we dove keystone. We survived and it was an incredible dive. Actually going to do it again today at 5. Huge lingcod and lots of clown dorids. Even snorkeled for a while at the end when our air was low.

Dives near Bellingham (Keystone Jetty, Rosario?)

Hey guys, I live in Bellingham, Washington and want to find some good dives up here. I've mostly been diving around Seattle (favorite place to dive is either Alki or Salt Creek near Port Angeles). I hope to dive this weekend at Keystone Jetty and Rosario. Do you have any tips for those two sites? Or...

Hermaea Olivae Nudibranchs at Alki

I have been seeing tons of tiny Hermaea olivae nudibranchs at alki cove 2 in about 5-15 feet of water! They are amazing little guys. Here are some photos. They are hard to spot at first but once you see one you'll notice that there are ten others on the same piece of seaweed. Any idea as to why just...

Best dive camera less than $500?

Hey guys, for the past year I've been using a $150 canon camera but I'd like to upgrade. I am most into photographing nudibranchs and other small subjects. I want a better camera for detail but I just don't know where to start. Do I need a specific light for a camera to take better photos or is a di...

Thought I'd post photos of the other Hermaea olivae nudibranchs I saw on the very same day! Sorry; not best photo quality but those little suckers (lol, they are sap suckers) are so small. Isn't it crazy what a different color the others are? I must've seen about twenty of these greenish brown ones....
