Re: Diving Edmonds Wednesday Oct 20th
I am in reasonable shape (half-marathon athlete these days, I gave up running marathons a few years ago!), and not a novice either (~230 dives, some of which in UK waters, so used to cold water and poor visibility!). In terms of gear, I will have everything with me except a tank and lead weights. S...

Re: Diving Edmonds Wednesday Oct 20th
If you are in reasonable shape (not marathon athlete, just being able to swim without being winded) and not a novice diver Edmonds will be fine all day. It will not be deep anytime, that is not what Edmonds is about. It would be better not diving it after 6:00 as Norris said, but it is still doable....

Re: The hunt for altitude
This is probably too far, but Twin Lakes at 5200 ft near Mt Baker fits all your other criteria. Take Forest Service Road 3065 off the Mount Baker highway. The last stretch of road is steep switch backs and is only marginally maintained so you need a 4WD. I don't know about the depth of the lakes. It...

Re: Next time I'm calling Pop-A-Lock!
My first truck was a little 75 Ford Courier. It was a very basic vehicle even for the time. Didn't really need a key, just a coat hanger and a pair of needle nose pliers (which I kept under the sheet of plywood "bed liner"). I would cut the hanger and shape a hook to pull the inside the do...

Re: Nice Polaris RIB on Craig's List
Funny story. I pick up my spanking new Polaris at the factory and head south on I-5. On the way I stop in Mount Vernon to show my new boat to a friend. I pull outside her house and as I glance back at my new toy... something looks wrong. It dawns on me that when I crossed the border the boat had a w...

Re: Anybody have some canon weights?
Or we could spend a few hours making a custom weight. It wouldn't be too much fab time to make a custom mold out of some steel and then pour a little lead. Its been a while since I've poured some lead, its about time for another pour.

Looks like what you are seeing is a front seat to the front of the console. Yes and its too close to the bow to be the 16.5ft model. I'm pretty sure its the "14.5ft" model as measured by the manufacturer. Which is good since as <16ft it saves annual excise tax. compare with this pic: http...

Re: Edmonds Oil Dock
Most of the pilings were totally removed. It looks like stubborn ones that they couldn't pull were sawn off at the bottom and some sort of rinky dink cap placed on the exposed end (to control leaching?). The real head scratcher is the large steel piling that were on the ends of the structure. These ...

It wasn't bought as a dive camera, but after she bought it we looked for housings and choices were limited.

Re: Is there a cave dive in Clear Lake Oregon?
There are no divable caves in WA. :uh: Are there non-divable caves in Wa? http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/ape-cave And downhill from Ape cave is Lake cave, part of the same system, although not known to connect. I helped with a cave radio survey to see how close they came ( a few hundred feet). ...

The skeptic in me thinks this was all about sex. Looking at the video I visualize the male turtle's thought process as: "Damn, flipping her on her back didn't work, looks like I'll have to roll her over." The way he is following the rescued turtle at the end sure looks like male bar behavi...

Re: weekday dive, looking for kelp and wrecks.
Try Edmonds. Less than a 30 minute drive to Kingston, park the car then walk on the boat if you want. In half an hour you are at the Edmonds Underwater Park.
Kelp is growing all over the place and there is a lot of structure there.

Re: Photographer's dilemma - equalizing pressure in dry glov
I have the same glove configuration and have tried several things. Lately I am using very stiff, very small diameter vinyl tubing I found in the fishing tackle section of my local Ace Hardware. I think the stuff was for threading onto fishing line to make a lure look more attractive to a fisherman. ...

Re: Visiting PNW in October and looking for dive buddy
Edmonds Underwater Park is an easy dive stop by train. Across the street from the Amtrak Station is a dive shop where you can rent anything you don't want to be carting around on the rest of your trip. From there it is an easy walk to the dive site. Edmonds is all about seeing an array of Puget Soun...

It was a fun day. Hats off to the skipper at Deep Sea, the camera was EXACTLY at his numbers and depth. That was a pretty awesome dive as well.

Re: Lost Camera
Saturday will work for me. I'll call tomorrow and we can work out the details. It would be best to have 4 divers so we can put more eyes on the bottom. I dive a rebreather, I'll ask a friend or two with rebreathers. I can dive a little deeper/longer if I have a rebreather buddy.

Re: Lost Camera
On another thread I offered to help search for the other lost camera of the trip. When can you get a dive day to go look? Launching my boat from Anacortes we could be at James Island in half an hour easy. Room for 4 divers on the boat. Let me know if I can help.

Re: San Juans boat charter - Sunday, August 1
could someone with a rebreather find the camera ? I was thinking the same thing when I read this thread this morning. Depending on likely depth and other factors I wouldn't mind attempting a retrieval. If too deep for me I can at least offer my boat as a platform for some other rebreather divers. I...
