Re: Can't Identify This Marine Mollusk

Update: It is most likely dead. This may be a large piece of the shell. Bleaching may have taken place if it was brought to this spot with the tide from very shallow water. The shell club best guess was a Leafy Hornmouth. The spike on the shell, less than 1 cm in length, is a good clue to what it co...

Re: Can Someone Identify This Marine Mollusk

Update: I think it's a piece of the shell of a dead mollusk. Someone at the shell club thought it was a Leafy Hornmouth.
The spike is the identifier. Anyone got an idea?

Re: Can Someone Identify This Marine Mollusk

Don't really want to email the Oceanography school over something this elementary. At first I thought you were way off, but as Yellow Eye pointed out they don't come out of the same mold and they could have spike. Moon snail empty egg cases are visible at Richmond Beach in May and June, so they sho...

Re: Can Someone Identify This Marine Mollusk

Answer to both replies. Thank You for trying. There is definitely a shell, and there is a spike sticking out of it. None of these mollusks from emerald diving have the distinctive white shell that this critter has. Looks like I'll have to be pest at the Oceanography/Marine Biology school. It's fairl...

Can't Identify This Marine Mollusk

Hi All, I sighted this marine mollusk in one of my snorkeling videos and I can't identify it. The resolution of the still picture is not good (from 1080p video with a GoPro HERO 7 White). I've seen similar shellfish in scuba videos, but it is not common. Can anyone identify it? Skip ahead to 5 minut...

Dramatic Change at the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park

Hi, I'm perplexed by a change that took place close to shore at the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park. Last year at this time the habitat was alive with Sargassum, Sea lettuce, Red Seaweed, Eelgrass, and juvenile fish. This year there was a big change between early May and early June. It was sand and ro...

Murky Waters

:rawlings: Could anyone tell me why there is poor visibility in the shallows of the Sound this time of year? Plankton - Algae bloom - or what?

Looking For A Snorkel/Free Diving Dive Buddy

Alki picture 2.jpg
I am a senior snorkel diver looking for a dive buddy. Diving hangouts are Edmonds Underwater Park, Alki Beach, Discovery Park Lighthouse. I'm interested in River Snorkeling too. I am not at an advanced level. Interested?

Seeking Advice On BCD and Weights

]I am a beginning snorkel diver seeking advice on lead weights and a weight belt. The environmentally sealed Pocket Weights would definitely provide good lead protection generally, but the ones I'm finding are 7 1/4" long and present difficulties in finding a weight belt that size since they ar...
