Re: I got Hit HARD .... LMJ
My wife is a jellyfish magnet.... if they are around, she will get stung. A couple years ago we were diving at Sund Rock and she got hit by a LMJ tentacle. Nothing worked to alleviate the pain, until we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant and she had a big margarita with salt on the rim. Not sure...

Beach diving?
Has anyone done any diving from a beach in Oregon? Or is the surf too difficult to navigate? I have heard that there is a "trench" that runs about a few hundred yards off the beach on a line from the jetty to Yaquina Head and you can get down into it where you are protected from the surge....

Awesome dives at Les Davis on 3/23
We had two great dives at Les Davis last Tuesday. On the first dive we were "buzzed" by a sea lion several times. I was a ways from the group and he stopped within 3-4 ft of me and just hovered there for a few minutes. We stared at each other, then he lost interest and swam away. Of course...

Re: Lost hood and gloves at Redondo
AWESOME! Was it a sea lion or a harbor seal? There is a smaller harbor seal I've encountered at LD a couple of times, a real cutie. You should do a quick write-up in the "Dive Recap" area and post the wolfie pic. Haven't seen a wolfie at LD in a while--thought they had moved out. Well, yo...

Re: Lost hood and gloves at Redondo
Not to rub it in, but the second dive on Monday was awesome! We lost count of the stubby squids and saw 2 baby octos. Keep us posted if you get back up this way soon. How were your dives on Tuesday? Hmmmm.... missed out. I dont think that any of us had a fourth dive in us that night though... we we...

Bummer Kelly! Sorry to hear this.
How was the second dive? I want to thank you again for you and the gang showing us the site. It was a fun and awesome dive. I will try to get up there again some time on a Wednesday night.

Re: Looking for buddy
I have experience with some of the sites on the coast and would love to go diving with you sometime. There are also a few that I haven't tried yet because access wasn't easy enough for Fav dive buddy. I have primarily dived with my wife, aka fav dive buddy, but her schedule is even more hectic than ...

Re: what type of camera to buy
I have an 8 megapixel Cannon Powershot SD1100is Elph that I paid less than $200 for. It takes great pics above and below the water, and I got the housing for it for around $160. Its a great starter camera & housing that wont break the bank or your heart if it floods. If you already have a digita...

Re: Salem, Oregon Newb :D
Salem Scuba is the BEST! I wouldn't even go to that "other" shop.... Been doing my dive business with them since I got certified 5 years ago. Blake will give you a great deal on everything, and Allen is one of the most knowledgable guys I know.

Welcome to NWDC! Which shop in Salem are you taking your class through? When you get done, hit me up and I can show you a couple sites that I like on the coast.

Re: Necanicum or Siletz?
I dove the Newport fingers only once.... and then it was the wrong one. We dove on the closest finger and it was way shallow... only about 4 ft deep until you got about 100 yds off shore then it dropped. One buddy pair wasn't paying attention and ended up in the middle of the channel. We didn't try ...
