Weights found @ Keystone
The hosts at Keystone passed some weight along to me last week. Describe 'em and they could be yours [again]

Re: High Water Temperatures
Was that water column stratified or mixed? How deep were you seeing those temperatures? I'm guessing the thermocline is intact, but perhaps the boundary depth shifted
The water was 11°C / 52°F at Keystone at nearly all depths on Sep 3, which was evidently survivable in a 5mm wetsuit

Re: Dive shop recommendations to service lots of hear
I got some trimix blended at Evergreen Dive Service not too long ago, and someone at Underwater Sports said they can do it when asked in advance. I would guess some other shops also have the capabilities. Which dives do you need trimix for? The last time I went below 40 metres it was pretty dark &am...

Re: Neutral/Positively Buoyant Fins
Scubapro Go fins have worked for me, as well as the Apeks RK3 if I need more drive and catch for back-kicking. What thickness are your booties? I wouldn't bother using anything under 5mm. Size the fins for 5mm neoprene boots. This protect your feet and it will counteract sinking fins. A lot of peopl...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
That single I-beam stub looks like a gold mine for critter habitat. What are the chances of getting a lot more of that kind of thing installed somewhere convenient? Just imagine if one of those huge tankers in the 'harbor' went down [empty of all contaminants, fuel and oil, of course!] Now that woul...

Re: Diver rescued at Mukilteo
I think most of us could imagine this happening under sufficiently curious, distracted, or narc'ed conditions. A good reminder that according to every training organization(?), any time a direct ascent to the surface is not a safe option is a tech, wreck or cave type of dive. There are a lot of 'rec...

it's been very fascinating to discover all of what are now evidently the works of a "prior generation" or golden (emerald?) age of PNW diving. All of us who started SCUBA in earnest after ~2010 really enjoy all of these local resources and information. Thank you to those of you still maint...

I hear some people just cut the old seals closely and then glue on top of the old ones? Unless the condition of the existing substrate is too questionable

Re: + rating on tank question
The direct way to know this is to fill it with clean water to measure its internal volume (e.g. weigh empty vs. full, 1kg = 1 liter volume), then multiply that volume by the number of atmospheres of pressure when filled with compressed gas. DGX claims a steel LP85 has an internal volume of 13 liters...

Re: Concerning the removal of derelict aquatic structures and restoration of aquatic lands
More underwater habitat/park sounds nice, but is someone altering a popular dive site without warning? Is that how it works at Mukilteo? How did the Edmonds Underwater Park happen? Some approximate community consensus brainstorm by alpha locals? I'd love to make a proper little dive park off a local...

DIN or yoke? (Or convertible?)
If only I needed more clip-on bailout stages--aluminium cyls being neutral-ish are great for that!

Re: Concerning the removal of derelict aquatic structures and restoration of aquatic lands
While it might be a privacy concern, it would be interesting to know what particular structures inspired this bill.
Presumably those behind it went through the trouble due to specific examples?
Is there not already a legal process covering derelict aquatic structures?

Re: Snorkeling the Channel Between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island
Keystone yes that does work, though the slack can be short for surface activities. I gave myself the willies 'freediving' a bit there (to ~12 meters) as you can never really see the bottom (or top) unless you're right by the rocks. Same for Iceberg Point on Lopez. I have not snorkeled the Driftwood ...

Re: Snorkeling the Channel Between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island
Life will find a way 🦀 What are some more good snorkel swims? I've been doing 2-4km shore snorkel swims occasionally in a hooded 5mm surf suit 7mm booties gloves whenever it's calm and the vis is good enough to see ~2(+) meters to the bottom. Core seems warm enough with a good pace. A neon shirt, ho...

I remember fantastic kelp & anemone gullies right off the point itself in Aug '19. There were lots urchins too, especially "deeper." Will kelp return by summer?
