Re: Greetings from a new OR diver

Welcome to the forum thomo. I'm in Portland too and dive a lot up in Puget Sound and out at the coast. Haven't decided if I'm going to the club dive yet. If I do make it i'd be happy to dive with you. If I don't make we should hook up for a dive another time.

Re: Eggs or crab guts?

"Guts" aka the hepatopancreas is greenish :) ? Hepatopancreas = one of the main digestive organs of crabs. Also called "crab butter". Sort of an olive green to tan color. You don't want to eat it, its where all the contaminants are found (there are always some) the meat is gener...

I have Si-Techs. They're easy and I've never had a problem with them. Never had any others though.

Re: Gauges

I agree with pensacoladiver. Having the Computer and compass wrist mounted allows easy access without using a hand to hold the console while navigating, monitoring NDL/dive time etc. A single SPG clipped off with a bolt snap on your left side d-ring is easy to grab and glance at occasionaly and is s...

Re: Need old 7/8" PST valve.

I'd prefer a Thermo 90 but if the Genesis ones are the only ones available I guess I'll make do. I actually have a Genesis right hand valve and would need the more common left hand one. I've read that some people actually prefer the 45 degree Genesis valves for sidemount. I didn't see the Genesis va...

Need old 7/8" PST valve.

Just wondering if anyone has a right handed (if you're looking at the inlet, handle's on the right) one? Or, does anyone know where to get one? I dont need the isolator, just a valve. I'm using it for a set of sidemount tanks. They seem to be pretty hard to find.

Tacos should be two corn tortillas, meat, onions and cilantro, that's all, and a Modelo Especial. There should probably be 4 or 5 of them. And a soccer game on the TV with Spanish speaking announcers so I don't really know what's going on.

Re: pollock decline

Experience over my years has convinced me that us humans haven't a clue about how the planet works. As a result we make resource and environmental decisions that time after time are proven to be wrong. At the same time we reproduce at a rate that threatens the very planet that sustains us. In that ...

I have a pair of XL F1s and they are a bit small. I was wondering if anyone had some XXLs that were a bit large that might want to trade?

I'm a big fan of HP100's. I think they are the perfect tank. I do have two 130's though. It's always good to have the extra gas when you want it. No way would I double the 130's though. My back would hate me.

Re: How many dive with a wetsuit in the PNW?

I did my first 25 dives in a farmer john 2 piece wetsuit. On dive #25 I came up out of the 48 degree water already a little chilled to do my surface interval before dive #2 in the 38 degree weather at Three Tree in November. After about 15 minutes I could not feel my feet and was just way too cold. ...

Re: Good Dead Boat Dive Sites in San Juans

You could always find another couple of divers to go with you and do two in, two out. That way everyone is either diving or doing an SI, no one is just sitting. You could probably even find another diver or two who would be willing and able to drive your boat too.
