Re: Point Hudson Closed
What's new @ Point Hudson this season? Is it open for diving yet? All open, construction is done. I think they're just now putting the finishing touches on the walkway over the breakwater. Aside from the new breakwater itself, which is going to be awesome habitat when it's had a chance to flourish,...

Saint Helena Island dive trip report
Hi All! I just returned from a dive trip to St Helena island. It's in the South Atlantic , but you knew that. :snorkel: It was awesome! Low-key island life, tons of fish, wrecks, lava topology and swim-throughs everywhere, whale sharks, mobulas, very fun. Water temp in the high 70's F, I wore a 5mm ...

Re: Florida transplant hoping to get certified!
Welcome!
Living in Everett you're nearly on the doorstep of Edmonds Underwater Park, probably the best place locally to practice diving. No current, not much wave action, lots of critters, oodles of shallow areas, all good.

Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend to reopen on March 1
From an article in the PDN: https://www.peninsuladailynews.com/news/marina-in-pt-to-reopen-on-march-1/ I assume this means the barges will be gone and construction complete. Come see all the fish before they're gone! Schools of black rockfish. The new adjacent rock reef is sprouting kelp, and GPOs h...

And then this from today in Port Hadlock. Not a flintlock (darn it) but a .22. Sheriff contacted.

Re: Epic Underwater Finds: What did you Discover today?
That's pretty awesome, love the flintlocks. Not so sure I would dive in the Columbia... We've found a ton of stuff in Port Townsend, some we're still trying to identify. Most of the earliest stuff comes from the 1880s, although we've seen a few bottles, bits and pieces from the 1860-70's. That's abo...

Re: Science diver* transplant looking to find community and keep up my diving experience
Bonus: I stumbled on this the other day-- the most screaming deal for soft weights I've ever found! Less than $1/pound. Holy smokes, am I reading this right? Soft weights are usually $5 a pound or more. (Might be a mistake, grab it fast.) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Soft-Weight-Bag-Pouch-Lead-for-BCD...

Re: Science diver* transplant looking to find community and keep up my diving experience
I don't have a dry suit unfortunately, most of my dives have been in SoCal where my 8 mm was sufficient. Do you have any recommendations for cost effective ways to get my hands on one? https://seaskin.co.uk/ Have someone help measure you. I recommend the membrane rather than the neoprene suits, qua...

DiveRite TransPac II BCD, $120
Well-loved TransPac II, has a M/L harness plus a separate L/XL back harness if you need something bigger. Travel wing with 25# lift, set up for single-tank diving. Inflator valve replaced this year. Everything works, I recently used it during a trip to Kona. Has D-rings and a crotch strap. $120 ship...

Port Townsend Jetty Construction Dive, Sunday 12/31 (TBD)
This Sunday (TBD pending good weather, no construction, etc.) at around 1pm I will be making an underwater video of the progress of the new jetty construction in Port Townsend. I would be happy to have another diver along for safety. Part of the dive may include an overhead environment due to the co...

Anybody want to do Fort Flagler, 12/29 through 12/31? Currents are looking great!
I'm looking for a buddy to do one of my fav dive sites, the fish haven at Fort Flagler . This site is exposed to Admiralty Inlet (well, it's actually in the inlet) so it's very current sensitive. Currents Fri-Sun are about as good as it gets, lots of slack, light exchange. The flushing of the strait...

Re: Diving PT Sunday? 12/17
Coal! I'm rich! Or maybe I was just naughty.
Found off off Fort Worden. Somebody may want some, someday.
Beats the heck out of me why it's still around, I would have guessed it would be slightly water soluble.

Diving PT Sunday? 12/17
Last minute planning, just in case someone is in the Port Townsend area Sunday and wants to go for a dive. Tides are good mid-day, splash at 1230 or earlier at Fort Worden in search of 100-year-old coal (for stocking stuffers, of course!)
Gimme a shout.

Re: Annoying issue
I was planning on diving this weekend, but cut my thumb pretty bad on a mandolin slicer. It was so stupid as I knew better and should have listened to that little voice in the back of my head. I have gotten better over the years listening to that voice. Using dry gloves? Shouldn't be a problem. In ...

I'll try to get ahold of him (friend of a friend, so I'll have to play a little bit of relay) and see if he is still making them. Re: T-Handle for BlackTip DPV?
No experience with the T-handle but you can modify the firmware. This can give you cruise control and a few other options to make piloting it easier. CC would allow you to just switch hands and not need to hold the thumb trigger. Firmware: https://github.com/bwoodill/BT_VESC Interesting. I would ch...

T-Handle for BlackTip DPV?
I've been looking at options for modifying my BlackTip DPV to include a T-handle, instead of the normal right-handed handle that comes stock. DiveX doesn't off a kit for this (why not??) but there are people who offer them after-market , as well as 3D printable parts . Have you put a T-handle on a B...

Re: The Bottle Thread
Here are some recent finds near my home in White Salmon, WA. Turns out I don’t need to always drive to PT to find the bottles. They are here in the Columbia River. I welcome all divers who want to come here and explore.. That's great stuff! Tell me more about diving in the Columbia-- do you have to...
