Yellowstone Diving

Hi all, I found this, a group out of Idaho Springs doing a dive a Yellowstone later this summer, 24 July (Facebook Link): https://fb.me/e/Np3MlZi0 Yellowstone has been on my bucket list for a long time, although from the sound of it they're only planning on one dive (a long way to go for a single di...

Feature request: favicon

On my browsers, the NWDC bookmark just has the little default "globe" symbol. Maybe it's just me? If not, can we get a favicon?

Maybe get suggestions from board users! Or just use a little dive flag?

Wow! That's crazy!!!
Crazier still... I think we've identified it as an FN Browning M1903, from circa 1905-1920. It's probably been down there a loooong time.

Re: Hypothetical Question (sorta): What do you do if you find a firearm while diving?

Today it happened.

Found a semi-auto handgun off of one of the docks in Port Townsend. It's been down there a while, no magazine, trigger and hammer rusted away.

It's basically a block of rust so we didn't report it.

Re: The Bottle Thread

Found a couple good ones lately in Port Townsend, both in perfect condition.

The larger bottle is from Glasgow, England, and the smaller one is an ink bottle from "Near Derby" England. The stopper is still rolling around inside it. Both late 1800's.

BC diving this year (God's Pocket or Egmont in October?)

Hi All, Like a lot of people, I have this pent-up desire to do a dive trip. Let's assume we're all vaccinated and the Canadian border is open again starting this summer. Ha!(?) I'd really like to get up to Egmont or God's Pocket for a week-ish, preferably with a fun group. Would also consider a grou...

Re: The Bottle Thread

And now for something completely different... A full bottle. Of whiskey? Moonshine? Kerosene? We've found corked bottles before -- ink, rotten beer, hair tonic, clove extract -- but this is the first time we've found a booze bottle full of clear whatever. Just a little sediment, hardly any floaties....

Re: BazillionQuestionsRegardingGearConfiguration

YellowEye's answers sums it all up nicely. Many of us find our dive times are thermally limited -- or we need to pee (drysuit, you know). Currents may also limit dive times, get ready for a change of pace! Deep dives can be dark and murky; fortunately a lot of the nifty critters are in fairly shallo...

I may have to try these. My hands are always getting cold. I just got a pair of these wool/fleece liners and they were warmer than my previous double-liner solution (the big yellow things that came with the dry gloves and smaller, polypro liner gloves). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L6WQ9V4/r...

Re: Dive Insurance ....

Thanks for pursing this. I wonder what is different about WA that the underwriters won't insure 70+ here?

FWIW, DAN insurance is secondary insurance. Your primary insurance is the first line of defense; making sure that's as good as possible is probably the best (only?) action available.

Hypothetical Question (sorta): What do you do if you find a firearm while diving?

Kinda slow on the board lately. Thought I'd stir up the silt a bit... The question isn't really hypothetical because, inevitably, someone here will find a weapon while diving. This year alone we've found quite a lot of unspent 30-06 ammunition from the WWI era, and a CO2 air pistol (badly corroded)....

Just a follow-up on this.

I drove over the bridge today and checked things out, and there a still -- very definitely -- two signs that say NO SCUBA DIVING BELOW THE BRIDGE.

Area affected includes Point Hudson dive site. Overflow happened a few days ago but the warning is still in effect.

From Fort Flagler the other day... Claussen Brewing Association, Seattle Wash. blob-top beer bottle, ca. 1901. A bit sand-blasted after being underwater for 120 years, but otherwise in great shape.
