Re: Seeking Advice on first BCD Purchase and Insights on Sidemount Diving in PNW
Regarding local popularity... Lots of us know about sidemount but few use it here; I think there's still a lot of inertia with back-mounted doubles. I'd like to practice sidemount 'just because', if I could find an instructor to help me set up the configuration. But would probably not use it locally...

Re: Viz Reports Thread
There is a report here from less than two weeks ago: https://pnwdiving.com/view?divesite=Lake%20Crescent Well yuck. Probably all the runoff making things cloudy. I just heard a report that Lake Tahoe has 'overturned' due to cold weather, bringing very clear water to the surface. It hasn't been that...

Re: Hood Canal Bridge
Yup! That's the dive . Scary, wonderful, and often a challenge. I liked the video of that area at the end of the dive by the supports, during the deco. Fishies! I actually didn't have any compass problems because I got out from under the bridge and away from the structures before taking the return h...

I'm thinking it might be good for walk-on to the ferries, rather than taking my car across to Keystone or Edmonds.

This would be funny if it wasn't so serious. And that's a pretty goofy looking scooter, but whatever.

Re: Weighting help!!!
Yay! Warm, freshwater diving. The only way to know for sure is to do a buoyancy check with a mostly-empty tank. But perhaps we can put you 'in the ballpark', yes? First off, I doubt there is any conversion that will help when going from a drysuit to a 3mm wetsuit, there's just too many factors. So l...

Re: Major Changes for Point Hudson
A still shot from my video of the new reef made it to the front page of the Port Townsend Leader newspaper. Yee! Also heard that it was shown in DC to some kind of committee. More details needed! Plans are afoot for a critter relocation day (or days), likely at the end of July next summer. We have a...

NOAA nautical charts are going all electronic
For years I've used the on-line, numbered nautical charts NOAA produces. These are web versions of the exact same printed charts you can (or could) buy. Now they are going to an electronic version that no longer separates the charts into individual sheets. It's not yet fully implemented in some area...

Re: Keystone Currents Recommendation
Hi Greg, If I were planning it, I'd get in at 1500 on the 27th. Looks pretty good. The 26th looks good too, splash 1400. But not the 28th (too late in the day). Disclaimer: Eyeball the currents before getting in. Currents there can be squirrely at the best of times, and often vicious near the end of...

Re: Have you ever had a reg freeze in Puget Sound?
But I am a fossil. ha. With any luck, we'll all be fossils some day. I'm well on my way too. :partydance: Ya, I can see how a really cold day (air temperature) could cause problems at or above the surface, especially for the second stage. Under normal circumstances, I've dismissed any water temps w...

Have you ever had a reg freeze in Puget Sound?
I was just reading an article that claimed if you were diving in "waters that are significantly colder than 14 degrees Celsius / 57 degrees Fahrenheit" you should use an environmentally sealed reg to help prevent freeze-up. Uh, really? I've been diving for years with regs that are not envi...

Re: Diving in Norway?
Dave Sutton has been putting on some yearly Antartica Dives. I dont recall if allow OC, or RB only. I saw he had some trips going in past years but haven't heard anything lately. Kinda disappeared from my FB feed. Since I've always wanted to go to Norway, I've gone ahead and planned a trip for Augu...

Re: Scuba tank with internal bladder rather than a BCD. What could possibly go wrong?
I imagine adding water to the tank to make it negatively buoyant, and watching the pressure on the SPG go through the roof. At some point the first stage explodes. But that's just a nit.

UPDATE! Things are ahead of schedule. Also -- and this is a happy thing, maybe -- they are filling the area between the metal pilings with rocks. I'm unsure if they're going to put in sheet metal outside of the pilings, which was in the original plan, but it doesn't look like it. If they use the sam...

Does it come with the cat? :-)
Sorry I never got back to you when you offered earlier. I think the dimensions are probably too big for the airlines. I'm on the other side of the water otherwise I'd come get it anyway.

Will do!
I seem to have conflicting needs: big enough to hold everything, but light enough that I don't exceed weight limitations.

Avelo scuba system moves buoyancy control into a high-tech air tank
So let me get this straight... The tank includes a battery and water pump, that can pump sea water into the tank at a pressure of 4000psi to compensate for changes in buoyancy?
Uh, good idea. I'll watch, thanks.

Roller Duffle Bag Recommendations?
I'm looking for a rugged, monster roller duffel bag (for airline check-in) that can hold all my drysuit gear, backplate and wing, F1 fins, weezle, drysuit, the works, except weights and tanks of course.
