Re: FS: XS Scuba 130's 2X - $250ea

I have a tank just like this and it's my go-to for deeper, longer dives. $250 after a fresh hydro is a great price.

Re: Major Changes for Point Hudson

A bit of an update... The project will occur in two phases, over two years, during the fall-spring time frame. This year they are working on the far side of the entrance to Point Hudson Marina, not in the usual diving area (see picture). I stopped by and chatted with a foreman for a few minutes... T...

Living in Everett you're just a short hop to Edmonds Underwater Park, which is an excellent place to get oriented to PNW diving and dial-in the gear.

Welcome!

Re: Snorkeling the Channel Between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island

What are some more good snorkel swims? Under the docks and along the breakwaters in Port Townsend. Lots of life! Bait balls, crabs, all kinds of stuff. Look out for boat traffic. North Beach in Port Townsend, maybe. Kelp and schools of small fish. Beware of currents, which get worse as you go farth...

Snorkeling the Channel Between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island

And now for something completely different... :norris: I went out snorkeling between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island, in the newly-reopened channel. The backstory on this area is that it used to be naturally open, flushing out the water in the bay and providing habitat for wildlife. In 1958 the...

Fort Flagler. Seriously, it's awesome. The currents are even trickier, but the vis is always better and the life is great.

Re: Major Changes for Point Hudson

The plan now includes moving and saving some of the rock for fish habitat, which I find encouraging. This is what some of us have been asking for, and it made it into the plan as an addendum: New habitat conservation measures including a habitat feature to offset potential impacts to rockfish and li...

DPV Slate

Does anybody make a slate specifically for attaching to a dive scooter?

I suppose I could make my own, or just write headings on the scooter with a grease pencil.

Curious to know what anyone else has done.

Re: The Bottle Thread

Awesome finds! Who wants to come and explore and find bottles? You just need to learn to ignore all the “bio-chatter” and the bottles will appear. Me, me! Uh, I don't know about going a half mile off shore: I think my DPV, tank, and bladder would run out long before then. But a few hundred yards, yo...

Travel Insurance

Hey all, I'm taking a little trip up to God's Pocket (yay!) a week from now, and looking at travel insurance. The trip is a bit expensive, of course, but I'm only interested in coverage for big catastrophic medical expenses like road accidents or being bitten by an orca. If the trip gets cancelled d...

Anybody diving in Port Townsend this weekend, 7/23 - 7/24?

Mid-day tides are looking good, and the water's been clearer lately.

My usual buddy is out of action for a few weeks. If you're diving locally, can I tag along?

Marine Salvage Rights in Puget Sound

Let's say, hypothetically, that a diver finds a sunken boat (or vehicle, or whatever) somewhere in Puget Sound. Maybe the original owner of said boat wants to recover it. Or maybe not. Either way, the diver gets there first, and raises/salvages the boat. What rights does the salvager have? Does the ...

Re: Shore Diving sites on Orcas Island or Shaw Island

One good Shaw dive is Broken Point. I've been curious to know if it is doable with scooters, you may want to check that out! Broken Point looks like a great area. If we could get to a nearby beach I think scootering would be very doable, but the nearest beach is the small isthmus leading out to Bro...

Shore Diving sites on Orcas Island or Shaw Island

¡Hola amigos!

I will be on Shaw Island for a few days next month and would like to get a few dives in. Shore access is ... limited... Same goes for nearby Orcas Island.

Do you know of any good dive sites on either island that we might access? We have scooters, if it helps.

They all seem to be awkward. Or non-functional. There's definitely a need for an elegant tide/current predictor web site, if there was a way to fund it without too much advertising baggage.

I use tide.arthroinfo.org, which is quirky and tedious but seems to be comprehensive.

A Sign of the [Old] Times

And now for something a little different... We did a cleanup dive near Point Hudson today and pulled up an old gasoline sign. It was newly exposed by winter storms, I think, because we'd never seen it before. It took a lot of digging and a 50# lift bag to get it to shore. This is a keeper! Haven't q...

Using a shop compressor for inflation testing

Some of you have probably known this since Before Scuba ... but it's new to me! I wanted to leak-test my drysuit and was looking for a way to inflate it that wouldn't drain a scuba tank. If you have a shop compressor with a blow-gun nozzle that has a removable tip, an LP BCD inflator hose fits perfe...

Biked across on the ferry today with snorkeling gear and took a look. They're still there! Very fun. Not as many as in your video, but still a great afternoon splashing around in the lake.
