Re: A new Toy!

Diver Bob very cool! Great shots indeed. You're putting that new strobe to good use :smt038 I always shoot macros in Aperture (A) mode with the aperture set to F8. that gives you the best depth of field for those close shots. For wide angle shoots, shooting in Program is fine, just be sure to force ...

Re: Wow, Big changes in nudi ID"s coming

I'm always amused when I hear or read something to the effect that we should use the scientific names because they don't change and each critter has exactly one. In language teaching, we call that a first-year lie =D> all things change is the first rule, but scientific names change only by the cons...

Saw this little guy at Cove 2 this past week. Looks like maybe a juvenile Red Irish Lord, but I've not seen these markings before.......

Re: Tray and strobe question.

I am diving a Canon a720 in an Ikelite housing. I really want to move into a strobe setup. What is the best tray for the Ikelite housing? My housing has the dual attach points. I have heard that the Ikelite dual handle tray is very robust but heavy. Any recommendations? As far as the strobe goes, I...

bi-color

I've decided to just call them Flabellina and let someone else figure out which kind---- :geek: In the meantime, here's another frosted nudibranch shot Dirona albolineata . I often think there's not room enough in my collection for yet another Dirona, but am always changing my mind when I see the ne...

Re: Northwest Nudibranchs

Nice spotted specimen Dan. Wish you could have been with me a couple weeks ago at Sund Rock. There were literally hundreds! Packed so tightly together on the kelp it was almost impossible to get an individual picture. Plus the Flabellina trophina were everywhere below 30 feet. An awesome photo op. ...

Hooded Nudibranchs at Cove 2

I've seen Hooded Nudibranchs Melibe leonina this summer one every dive so far this summer at Cove 2, hanging out on the seaweed between 10-40 feet. Last night I had my camera! Re: Northwest Nudibranchs

I been tryin for a long time to get what I felt was a really good Opalescent shot but they never quite seemed to turn me on till I got his one last thursday at port Townsend. For once everything came together. 1184net.JPG this one got my interest because they were actually laying but when I got the...

curious Dogfish at Day Island Wall

I usually just pack my macro lens on dives, but yesterday I decided to go wide angle instead. (I was thinking of the rather friendly Wolf Eels that hang out on Day Island Wall). Midway along the wall my buddy Andy was flashing his light at me to get my attention as there was a nice sized Spiny Dogfi...

A Frosted Nudibranch of a different color

Frosted Nudibranchs Dirona albolineata are usually all white, but sometimes you'll find them with color variations leaning towards orange, pink or even violet. I saw violet ones in Victoria BC at Ogden Point a couple of years ago and haven't seen one since. So I was excited when I recently found thi...

Re: My New Camera

I have a Canon SD 880 which is similar to your new camera. You should be able to turn off the power down feature by going to your menu and choosing the tools option. Scroll down to Power Saving and choose Off. You'll run down your battery faster, but you can turn your lcd display on and off during y...

Neah Bay Nudibranchs

I went to Neah Bay last weekend, here's of some of the nudibranchs from our dives. Being on the coast produces some interesting variations in species and size! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2670/3835129935_d7555d3828_m.jpg White Nudibranch (duh!) Re: Neah Bay giants

Awesome Orange peel! Great idea to get it with a hand in the picture so we could appreciate the actual size. Dave Behrens said these guys get up to 300 mm (11+")and I'd say that's pretty close to that guy's size. Andy Lamb's book Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest says up to 18 inches. He al...

I had the good luck to be diving out at Neah Bay this past weekend. Lots of cool stuff, but none cooler than this really huge orange peel nudibranch Toquina tetraquetra . No macro required!

Re: back in the water

I went to Scotland (mainly the Island of Skye) 4 years ago August, with only 6 dives to my name. The diving really looks amazing there, at least to this confirmed coldwater diver. Now if only everything there didn't cost so much money! Sorry ahead of time if this is turning out to be 'off-topic'......

back in the water

I've been out of the water for a few weeks but was able to get back to diving at Hood Canal yesterday. I found this large Decorated Warbonnet at Point Whitney on the pipline at 70'. And some of the usual Hood Canal nudibanchs at Octopus Hole too..... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3419/3757102978_1a...

Re: First Impressions.....

Program mode isn't that different from Auto mode, except that Auto mode will likely switch white balance and ISO to what the camera thinks it should be. If the camera has the ability I'd suggest shooting it in Aperture mode ("A") and set the aperture to F8 or whatever the smallest aperture...
