Re: Someone Has to know about this ????

I wonder why instructors don't test their Rescue Diver students with a scenario like that--put a mannequin down and surprise the students to see that they react the right way (i.e, not panicking) 'cause sometimes, you know, you're not so much "rescuing" as "recovering". :pale: Th...

Re: Someone Has to know about this ????

That is messed UP. I got the shivers reading that and I'm sitting at my desk, topside. I agree about the dead body phobia, especially in the dark. Yikes! You guys handled it WAAAAYYY better than I think I would do! :pale:

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Redondo 9/3
Vis was EXCELLENT today--I could actually see my buddy clearly (20-25' away) at 80 fsw, instead of just a blackish blob. I know the sunny day helped. Didn't find the lobster-even though we hunted for 'im. Did see TONS of other cool critters, though! YAY!!

DUI DOG @ Owens Beach this weekend

Is anyone going to this? Has anyone been and can recommend for/against attending? I'd like to go try out some dry suits, just don't know if this is a good venue or not.

Thanks!

Re: Viz Reports Thread

9/1 Edmonds UWP
Vis was about 5-10 feet when out a ways, much worse closer to shore. Some cool critters, but a LOOONG swim out to get anywhere near 40 fsw.

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Redondo 8/28
2-5 feet--abysmal. :crybaby: The snot strings are gone, but there was a ton of gunk in the water. And a fair current, too, at around 50'--odd! :dontknow:

Gear Servicing

I was wondering how often you diving folk have your gear (regs, gauges, BCs) serviced. There is so much conflicting information out there, it's hard to know exactly what to do. Or is it safe to assume that as long as it works when we do a safety check at the beginning of a dive, that we shouldn't wo...

Re: Viz Reports Wanted

Thanks, Tom Nic, for the info--we tried TTN for the first time last night and it was spectacular! Vis was easily 20-30 feet once we got down a bit (around 40 feet and beyond) Saw several ratfish and a red octo along with tons of other cool critters!! Very cool. We'll definitely be diving here again...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Redondo last night was pretty decent--you can kind of see around the long snot strings which makes it not too bad (around 10-15' or so at 80 ft.) Dragged my husband on his first *twilight* dive last night. Saw some sand lance, tube fish, and a (rather large!) sea cucumber. Sweet!! I just wish there w...

Re: Viz Reports Wanted

We did Redondo last night after work--viz was CRAP! (Plus a lot of getting knocked about by waves!) So is there really no better way to predict visibility other than just turning up at the water to see how it is? (Sorry, I'm new PNW diving and I'm trying to sort out how to best plan my trips!)
