Re: Bali

We tried living in Puerto Rico. We made it 6 1/2 years before we just couldn't take it anymore. The caving was incredible. The diving was ok. The climate was for the most part ok but 100% humidity does cause issues. In PR we could get what we needed but it was never easy. Some things were cheaper li...

Re: Mystery Sharks of Seattle

I think the dog fish need protection like the six gills. I have witnessed first hand the standard practice from fishermen to kill every dog fish they catch. This has to stop! The reason I got why they killed them were "they are trash fish" or "they eat my bait" or "its hard ...

Re: Mystery Sharks of Seattle

IIRC in 2003 we were seeing one or two "naturally" on every dive in the summer at 3Tree. Then in 2004 we stepped it up to seeing 4 to 12 on every dive at 3Tree but that was with encouragement. None of "ours" had tags on them. Wild times. Great show. Fortunate I could participate....

Re: God's Pocket April 4-8

Like you I first saw them at gods pocket. Then once I could identify them well I was surprised to see many at Salt Creek. They hang out in the grass on top of the rocks near the surface. They spook easy but always come back to the spot they were sitting on. With some patience you can get very close....

Re: unknown dive site

We dove the ones off Bainbridge from shore but that was 15 years ago. Even at the time parking was kinda iffy. We also dove under the salmon pens. I would think with all the food that there would have been a ton of life under them, nope. They were giant dead zones.

Re: unknown dive site

You may be referring to the submarine net anchors. I have dove them many years ago but forget where they were. I think there was more than one location for them. IIRC they were just down from some salmon farm.

Re: Feeling Frustrated

The most common source of water is actually from the DIN valve itself I think I disagree. Before I got my compressor my steel tanks would have all kinds of rust in them every year from various dive shops. I opened the valve briefly to blow out any water before they filled them. Once I got my compre...

Getting hit by a kayak? Really, that's a problem? LOL, I get hit by kayaks for fun every time I visit Seattle. Actually I am trying to get a game of kayak polo started here in Albuquerque. I hope to get hit a dozen times tomorrow. :) Anyone who wants to play kayak water polo for no charge can show u...

That's how I got hooked! Then I started Kayak diving out there and got yelled at a little by the coast guard. Then I just tied off the kayak to the marker and was fine.

Re: Lake Union dive to find lost boat keys (any restriction?)

At night, when it's windy and rainy is a good time to go. Just keep your light pointed down. There is one spot loaded with old trade tokens. Its right next to Dukes Chowder house. Under the Museum of History is all fill which all the glass items are still in good shape. Then right next to shore at t...

Re: Lake Union dive to find lost boat keys (any restriction?)

Ah, come on guys. I have done over a hundred dives in Lake Union and found lots of great stuff. That said if you get caught you might get yelled at. When my friend Jim found a body on the bottom and called it in the cops had the nerve to yell at him for diving there. That was all over 10 years ago. ...

Wow! This is a tough crowd! 500 dives makes you a beginner? 20 years ago 100 dives in the Northwest made me a better than average diver on a Mexican boat. I think I'm seeing more clearly what "Clicky" means. Yes when it comes some of the more difficult sites and DP you need your sh*t toge...

Thanks for initiating this Laura! It's great when a plan comes together. I don't know if you saw but we had some trouble with the boat on the way back out there. It took us a few minutes to get it sorted out. Just like old times!

Death of Doc Deep this week: The world record for deep diving is 1,090 feet and was set by Ahmed Gabr of Egypt on Sept. 22, 2014 in the Red Sea, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. That may be the record for SCUBA diving but the real record for deep diving is 1752 feet. Given that the ...

Re: Scooters. What do you have? Your likes and dislikes?

I have to take a look at those Genesis scooters mentioned here. Right now the most appealing is the Minnus. I used to have a Cuda, but the size/weight just made it not fun for me (already diving with a large camera). If I can find a small and fairly light scooter it would be something I'd consider ...

Re: Scooters. What do you have? Your likes and dislikes?

Gavin's are also slow, I know I used a friend's in FL a few months ago. 100lbs of slow boo hiss. The genesis speed control is easily bumped. But its also the only scooter on the market with smooth, continuous, on-the-fly speed control. I intermittently (1 or 2x a dive) bump mine with my light head ...

Rugged Justice TV show

Has anyone seen this show? I think the third episode was last night. I think it's fair although I may have treated the perps a little differently.

Last night I think the razor clamber should have been arrested and the fisherman who got two rock fish should have just been ticketed. IMO.
