Re: Strobes??

Wow! Thanks! If you're going to use them, at least use the repaired versions (thanks to my photoshop expert friend)! The picture's are from Bonaire last fall. That eagle ray was beautiful and didn't seem the least bit bothered by us.

Strobes??

I see all these beautiful pics from the tropics using the same camera as I have - Casio Z1200. Is it because I'm not using a strobe that these pics were ruined??? What a disappointment to an amazing experience. We're heading to Indonesia in May and would appreciate any photography help I can get bef...

Larry says 3", I say 4". I know that men and women disagree on sizes but usually it's the man arguing for bigger??

This guy didn't want anything to do with us. We finally saw why; we interupted his dinner. Looks like a shrimp in his mouth

I guess I didn't put his actual name to his screen name. I wish I could have talked to him to tell him what fun I had reading of his diving exploits.

Re: We lost one of our own today

Just logged on and am shocked and saddened to hear of Jake's passing. Like most of you, I didn't know Jake personally but really enjoyed reading his posts and looked forward to meeting him one day. It sounds like he was a remarkable man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends :smt051

Re: Redondo oddities??

I looked in my books and the closest thing I can find to the shrimp is a horned shrimp but the one in the book didn't have all the "decoration". I agree with you Jana on the fish; the dorsel fin is what made me think eelpout originally. I thought maybe this guy lost an eye but the mouth is...

Re: Redondo oddities??

That shrimp was really wild. About 1 1/2" and "decorated". I'd agree with you Dusty on the Ronquil but aren't they significantly smaller than an eelpout? Because of the size, at first I thought it was another eelpout until I got closer and took another look. Unfortunately I didn't thi...

Redondo oddities??

Hi everyone. Dove Redondo last night; good to meet you Dusty! Found a couple critters I don't think I've ever seen before. The first one is some sort of shrimp, but....... CIMG3398.JPG The second pic is an eelpout but look at the third pic. Is it an eelpout that lost it's eye??? Some similar feature...

Re: Indonesia, here we come ...

What a wealth information; I doubt I could have gotten more from a travel agent!! We've made contact with a dive company in Bali for a week on a "safari" which includes: Day 1; airport pick up, overnight Sanur Day 2: two dives Menjangan Island, overnight Pemuteran Day 3; three dives Menjan...

Re: Indonesia, here we come ...

Thanks for a wonderful editorial on Indonesia. My husband and I are considering going to Indonesia next spring. Is there anyplace that you would/should have gone that you didn't? Anything you would have done differently? If you could only go for 2 weeks, what would you cut out. We really don't know ...

Re: Vancouver and Victoria, BC

Highly recommend Ogden Pt; both as a dive site and as a dive shop. The dive site has GPOs and a wolfie that tried to curl up into my husband's lap. The dive shop was great; they were really helpful with information on the site. It is a heck of a hike along granite blocks but well worth it (you might...

GPOs

Several years ago, my husband and I were diving with a friend off Hat Island. We came across a HUGE GPO in the open. It wasn't bothered by us in the least and just hung out for a while. I finally motioned for my husband to pet it. He removed a glove and did just that, actually pet the thing on the h...

Thanks everyone for your help on Vancouver Island diving information. I'll do some more research on your recommendations and check out these folks. The trip is still somewhat in the air, but if we go, I'll report back on your recommendations.

Thanks again

Vancouver Island diving

We're heading to Victoria area on Vancouver Island for a few days (Port Hardy will have to wait for another trip) and am wondering if anyone has any great shore dives to recommend? Any dive shops or dive operators better than others?

Thanks for any input

I would definitely recommend AGAINST Costa Rica Diving out of Flamingo in Guanacaste area. It's run by a German couple; Barbara & ????. They do have a website last time I looked. 2002 we paid up front for a week of diving with them. The first half of the week was great; on the fourth day an unsu...
