Re: Learning about tides

If you are going to be diving from boats or even if you are not, there are some good places to start for basic education that includes tides and currents. Both the Power Squadron and the Coast Guard Auxiliary teach basic boating and coastal navigation classes cheep. Also, I have purchased this book ...

Re: Boat Question

Very good points about the size of rode that can be carried on a small boat and upping the anchor and chain size. On a small boat I like my road to fit in a milk crate or bucket. I don’t have a problem with short scope and I have put down a short scope many times but not when the boat being left alo...

Re: Boat Question

Remember that recommended scope is 5:1 to 7:1 in good conditions. That would mean to anchor in 40’ of water you will need 200’ of rode to achieve 5:1 and 280’ of rode to achieve 7:1. To anchor in 100’ of water with 300’ of rode is 3:1 scope and without someone tending the boat would be risky particu...

Re: let's talk trucks

Like Matt, I am in need of a new dive vehicle. I know what I want but finding it is the trick. I am looking for a 2005 or newer Nissan Fronter V6 auto 4x2 king cab with power windows and any color but black. My old BMW is just not cut out to be a dive vehicle.

Thunder Reef in Vancouver has used Andrea K. Charters in the past. You can call Thunder Reef and talk to Nicki. I think she can tell you about Andrea K. Charters.

Re: Netarts Night Dive and BBQ 4/18

Last weekend when I was in Newport, South Beach Scuba was asking for RSVPs on the Netarts dive. They want to know how much to bring for the grill. I would love to go but I have other obligations this weekend. Have a fun dive. I am looking forward to the trip report.

I appreciate hearing the stories from those I know personally, look up to and respect. But for everyone who hasn't read it, this book is invaluable to all of us as we progress through our training. My copy is currently in the Philippines with Mariette but I should get it back this summer. Diver-Dow...

South Beach Scuba in Newport

We rented gear from South Beach Scuba in Newport this weekend. The service was top notch. They are very friendly and helpful. They were open both Saturday and Sunday so we could get two days of diving over the weekend. The decoration in the shop is cool also. :boucegreen: :bounceline: :thankyouyellow:

They also didn't like us jumping off the Ballard bridge. We were under the mistaken impression the bridge did not open at night. Of course we jumped off the roof of DIT, back when it was on the west side of the bridge and before it sank, to swim out and climb the bridge then jump. Under the docks at...
