Re: NWDC Activity...

I'm pretty sure this thread was prompted by an observation I made and posted about on FB. Before I say anything else I would like to mention how much awesomeness this site has contributed to my life. When I was a brand new diver I didn't know anyone who dove. I became a member of Emerald Sea Dive Cl...

Re: Bertha Stuck, Divers might be used...

Interesting. I was just talking to my neighbor yesterday. He is in the running to be one of the divers (the commercial diver/pile drivers union sued to make sure they would be awarded the job) to go down there. From what he was saying, they plan on more extensive shifts (similar to sat. diving). But...

Re: Dive Gear Insurance

Don't waste your money on DAN. They had they balls to tell me my injury was not "dive related" after I broke my leg exiting the water in full dive gear. They turned down both the medical expenses and the cost of the dry suit, which the EMTs had to cut off of me. I had their dive insurance ...

Re: Salish Explorer no longer a dive charter

Mattleycrue76, What are you smoking? It must be some powerful stuff to impair you judgement! Bought a Pearson 35 sailboat in 2008 for $20,000 - though it was a deal. Complete refit including new engine all installed by yours truly for $31,000 - though it was a deal. Sold the sailboat in 2012 for $3...

Re: Dive Assure

DAN would cover the deductible on your catastrophic plan if it were a dive related injury. "Dive related" is a bit dubious though, breaking a leg at Cove2 between the car and the water may or may not count. The "dive related" definition being the biggest loop hole. I can assure ...

Re: Salish Explorer no longer a dive charter

Expensive boat ownership is a valid stereotype but not a hard and fast rule. I have owned three different boats over the last seven or so years. The first one I spent about $500 in maintenace and upkeep over a three year period, then sold it for $500 more than I paid for it. The second I had for abo...

Re: Equalization Miracle

I've noticed that if I make sure and equalize soon enough, in other words as soon as there is the slightest hint of pressure build up, I cant just exhale forcefully through my nose and the back pressure from the mask is sufficient to clear my ears.

Re: Perhaps the craziest question ever posed...

It can be done. The riding part wouldn't be too bad if the weight is distributed properly. After all, a set of SCUBA gear weighs less than your average passenger. Of course some bikes would be vastly more suited than others. Having said that I can't think of any reason why it SHOULD be done. It's pr...

I'm happy to see that there are so many like minded people on this board. Due to a very demanding work schedule I haven't been diving nearly as much as I would have liked to this past year but for a variety of reasons I've been working on establishing a bit of a firearms collection. I still consider...

Re: Any recommendations on a Marine GPS unit?

I've been pretty happy with my Lowrance HDS7. for about $500 you could get yourself a HDS5. Then later if you want you could add structure scan. IMO the smaller screens (around 5 inches) are fine for smaller boats and if you're ok using one function at a time. If you want to run multipe functions on...

Re: Got called an idiot for selling my pony!

I'm reading that everybody has a personal reason to carry or not. Anyone know of a training agency that advocates the use of one for recreational diving? IIRC NAUI (or maybe it was TDI?) has a solo diving certification. I haven't read their course requirements but I'm thinking it's a safe assumptio...

I rebuilt the 10Ah LiPo battery in my 21w Salvo for about $115 including the cells and circuit board. Not as expensive as most people think.
(I had a friend help me but I'm omitting his name so he doesn't get bombarded with requests to rebuild packs :) )

Re: Cuda Alternatives???

Most of the dive gear I have regretted buying has been of the cheaper alternative variety, whereas the stuff that has come highly recommended by a majority of experienced divers on this board has proven to be excellent. My Light Monkey HID light and my Sierra are both examples of this. I have owned ...
