Re: Am I tightening my shoulder straps too much?

Interesting, I've been getting that for a few years now and just figured it was from the weight combined with the distance between my gear up and the water. I learn something new every day!

Re: Drysuit Warm Water Diving

Thanks again everyone! Sounds like I might bring the drysuit down and at least give it a shot. Wayne, I didn't even see your post until just now. I think I was typing my last post when you responded. I'll try and stop by the shop sometime this week and touch base with you. Thanks again!

Re: Drysuit Warm Water Diving

Thanks for the input everyone! It sound like I should steer clear of the drysuit down there. Darn, I was hoping to avoid the added expense of another wetsuit.

Drysuit Warm Water Diving

Hello everyone, I suppose I could probably post this question on one of the other boards though I tend to appreciate the advise of my fellow northwest divers a little more. I am going to be moving to St. Kitts (Caribbean) at the end of December for my pre-clinical 2 1/2 years of vet school and I'm p...

Re: An Unusual Sight

Great shots! Looks like he was posing for ya. The only time I've been able to spot one was off of Orcas Island and it wasn't the most photogenic of individuals. This was only decent shot I was able to snag before it took off.

Re: What is so small and moves in big groups?

The small crustaceans in Dan's video look more like mysids (opossum shrimp) rather than krill. Krill often have a little bit of red in them so they still might fit the description of what you saw. Here is a picture of a swarm of mysids I took at Koitlah Point out near Neah Bay. I have yet to get luc...

Thanks for uploading those pictures Janna; I was in too much awe at the whole experience to pull out my camera much. Janna is being modest though, her naturalist performance topside was unparalleled as always and even included divulging reproductive techniques of Giant Barnacles and Kelp Greenling t...

I think I remember A2Z Scuba renting scooters a while back. Not sure if Amy would like to weigh in regarding profitability or other challenges faced.

Well? :dontknow: How was it? :smt064 I'm going in June for a daughters wedding. And of course I will bring some dive gear with me for a few shore dives there. Keith. Still have yet to go; we're flying out mid January for a week. I will definitely keep you posted though. Thanks again everyone for th...

The only time I've appreciated the backlight function on my Vyper Air was during mid-water ascents during night dives. Its nice to have one hand on the deflator on while just holding my wrist in front of me with the other.

I'm sorry for your loss guys. I had a chance to do 5 days of diving on the beautiful Mark V in Neah Bay with REEF this year. Mike is a class act and Porthole will be sorely missed.

Re: Kauai Dive Operators

Thanks for the info and beautiful pics you guys! Unfortunately I'm going in January and from what I've read so far, most charters don't run out to Niihau that time of year. As far as the shore diving goes, I would prefer not to have someone hold my hand if possible (not to mention making it easier o...

Kauai Dive Operators

Just found out I'll have the opportunity to visit Kauai in January :breakdance: and still working out the dive planning. After doing a few searches it seems everyone has their favorite dive operator. Any recommendations and/or warnings, preferably if you have dove with more than one charter in Kauai...

Re: Yellowtail at Sund Rock

Hey David,
I too spotted one on the south wall on 8/23, I wonder if it was the same guy. It was a fairly young single individual mixed in with a few other small black rockfish. Unfortunately I was only able to snag one picture of him.

Re: Baby seal at Redondo

Washington has many regional groups which handle marine mammal strandings and operate under NOAA permits. Usually they serve a general range with some overlap so who to call kinda depends on where the stranding occurred. The national NMFS enforcement hotline is 1-800-853-1964. Here is a list of mari...

First Time Find For Me

While diving yesterday morning in Doe Bay off of Orcas Island I spotted what I believe to be a Rock Prickleback (Xiphister mucosus) hiding within the kelp at a depth of approximately 10fsw. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get too many shots before he decided to disappear into the kelp.
