Re: Custom Dive Boat Ladder......Help
Gutholmj, unlike a shore-based ladder, a 15 degree angled dive ladder seems a bit much to me. I personally have trouble climbing up a canted dive ladder. More than once I've had to pause on the climb up (fouled deck, old age, or just looking around) and a closer-to-vertical (2-5 degrees) ladder make...

Re: Diving From A Sailboat?
P'cola has the right of it, a lot less hassle to carry the gear up on your back... unless your ladder/ladder mount won't take the strain.. or you are too old and beat-up to do it. I would probably put a block and tackle on a strap at the end of the boom, swing it out, winch up the gear and swing it ...

Re: What Fins Do You Use & Why?
I've got two types of fins for specific types of dives: If I have to cover some distance in the water or need some speed (I haven't got hooked on the scooter crack yet) my old legs LOVE my ScubaPro Twin Jet splits- I have yet to get a leg cramp even with extended finning; normal snoopin' and cruisin...

Re: Whats a good fill?
A good fill is the one you are happy with. I have yet to feel cheated because I tell the shop what I expect and always check the tank with MY gauge before paying... any discrepancies are corrected before I leave. I have never had a fill station not want to give me what I ask for, as long as I let th...

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
I normally wear wool boot socks and my feet stay warm. When wearing my DUI drysuit, I slip a pair of neoprene socks over the wool ones for ease of donning/doffing the suit... what a difference it made!

Re: Birthday gift for my 21 year old son
Great gift Coulterboy. Have you thought about including a professional course of instruction to go along with it? There are several well-respected ones available in the local area; if he is an out-of-towner, there are most likely courses available in his area. I intend to "gift" the same t...

Re: ow long was your DM, DIVECON,AI course?
My bad, Waynne; I thought you were someone thinking about becoming a DM,etc, not an instructor surveying why there weren't more DM, DiveCon, AI people active or in training. I can tell you that I will stay active as long as I feel useful, not used, and am still enjoying the interaction with new dive...

Re: ow long was your DM, DIVECON,AI course?
Captn Jack reinforces my suggestion to talk with the DiveCons who are working with the outfit you intend to be associated with, as well as the shop owner. My shop covers the insurance for all DiveCon related activities run through the shop as well as free airfills. I wasn't aware that other shops di...

Re: ow long was your DM, DIVECON,AI course?
It took me the better part of a year to complete DiveCon, mostly due to the fact that I'm out of the country 2/3rds of the time. The training and experience were great, I'm a much more aware, informed and competent diver now than I was before. Worth the money? Depends... I have more than made up my ...

I really enjoyed the dives, Kris, it's good to have you back. Great pictures. Sorry abt the boat. After $450 (only $41.88 in parts) I've got the boat back and running. Water in the fuel, with a fouled filter. Looking fwd to trying again.

The hood and gloves should be fine... until you decide you want to go dry there as well. Then it's a whole 'nuther can of worms. Welcome to the PNW and NWDC. Come out and dive with us a bit and see the different combinations available and in use.

Great report and pics as usual, Blaiz. My only relief from being dry and on the road has been the recaps, and your reports have always been especially entertaining. Back to what Kees said... go and try out several different wings so you know how they float/trim YOU out with YOUR gear and body composition. What works for one person might suck for another.

Hi Av8n, Welcome to NWDC. Sorry to hear about your lost weights. You can bet that anyone on NWDC who dives at Titlow will keep their eyes peeled for your pouch. You can also bet that you won't have to buy their honesty (although I wouldn't put it past some of us to hold it ransom if we needed a dive...

Re: Any reviews on Halcyon BCD's?
I've got both Halcyon and DSS bp/w setups. Both very well designed and constructed. I do like the plastic plate inserts on the DSS better, there is some chafe showing on my halcyon harness. The main difference to me is price and customer service. DSS has the blue H guys beat all to heck. If you can ...

Thanks for the dive and pics. I really enjoyed getting back in the water with you. I feel bad now , though, because I wasn't aware HOW bad you were hurtin during the dive. Definitely couldn't tell by your voracious appetite for octo and fishie pics. Glad the sting settled down after you got home, I ...

Re: Dry Suit Exploratory Research
Betty, I'm diving a Bare HD trilam with attached boots and will buy another when it's time to replace it. I have had no problems with my feet coming out of the boot during heavy finning, so maybe its a factor of fit or what kind of sock you use. I use heavy wool boot socks normally and have never ha...
