Re: Harper's Fishing Pier

Yeah ... it's a shame. That was one of my favorite places. A few years back we put together an underwater wedding under the dolphin to get a beautiful backdrop of the giant anemones. We had the bride, groom and minister all on coms and the videographer shot the whole thing for Evening Magazine while...

Re: Zipper wax

Silicone doesn't "break down" rubber. It softens and preserves. However, the softening will allow the slider to wear out the knife edge sooner. The AGS "Zipper Ease" is softened with silicone as well as other stuff.

Re: Zipper wax

You have to think about what it is we are trying to do in lubricating the zipper. If we just want the slide to pull easier, then the paraffin sticks from Walmart work just fine ... as long as you put it on every time you operate the slider as it flakes off easily when cold. To me, lubricating the zi...

Re: Gear Servicing

Where would we find "Salt X" ? Salt-X is stuff that didn't make it in the diving industry because it use words like "miraculous" in their advertising so nobody believed anything else they said. But it was originally developed and used in the charter fishing industry so you may b...

Re: Gear Servicing

OK ... here is the skinny! In the late 70s/early 80s (DANG ... I am really dating myself here!), the diving industry determined that regulators of the day went out of whack every 15-20 dives ... which is about what the average diver did in one year. So, they said to get the reg serviced once a year....

Re: why do dive shops do this?

9 times out of 10 statements like that are just plain ignorance on the part of the shop monkey. Dive shops can't afford to pay much so they generally get so-so employees. Don't get me wrong ... some of the minimum wage guys are GREAT!! But then there are those that just got a job at the shop to buy ...

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

There were a ton of mistakes made everywhere but it was the first year and you expect to do a little messing up here and there. But, overall it was a nice show and, hopefully, the same mistakes won't be made next year. For the exhibitors, the next few weeks will tell if it was worth the cost in time...

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

Hi all - I just returned from helping with set up for some buddies at the dive expo. This is truly an amazing event for us to host in our area - please try to make it to Tacoma Convention Center this weekend to show the folks that diving our waters is what we love to do! And don't forget to bring y...

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

The fact that the dive show and the Treasure hunt is on the same day has got to hamper his participation.. Hum, why did they decided to do that? I asked the same question to the producer and got mumbles, a lot of "uh"s and basically a statement saying just because! I am sure that it has s...

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

Boy ... I just re-read my post above and I think I didn't make myself clear and may have stepped on some toes. If I did, that was not my intent. I did not mean to imply that no dive shops were promoting the event. Every shop that got the fliers are giving them out. As I said, I did get one in the ma...

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

It is a shame. I discussed this with the producer of the show and he is convinced that just putting the advertising into his own magazine is going to fill the place. I am on the mailing lists of at least a dozen different dive shops in Washington and have only gotten one that has mentioned it. Plus,...

Re: Rules for boats???

While many out there are just plain butt heads, I am sure that half of the problems with boaters is just plain ignorance of what divers do. Way back when wife had her dive shop in Port Orchard, she would give presentations to the local boating groups letting them know what the dive flag looked like ...

Way back in the olden days when my wife had a shop in Port Orchard, we had a guy come in with a bunch of stuff that he "needed" to sell right away to pay a DUI ticket. I really didn't want to buy the stuff so I made an insulting offer of $150 in hopes that he would keep it and find another...

The black light is VERY COOL!! It really brings out the yellows, greens and reds on a night dive. Just a quick note on the original subject (sorry for bring this back up, but ...), stainless steel tanks were made up until the early 80s. If they have a stainless tank, it was never built for diving. They were used in the medical field. Unfortunately, when the word got out that a little company was...

Soap and water wash to clean any contaminants off the material then a little silicone liquid on our finger rubbed into the seal area but clear of the glued edges. It is a pain in the rear, but will extend the life of the seal.

Re: OK....

That's all well and good, but what about those of us with old school neoprene seals? Silicone spray seems to be working well, but as I'm new to dry diving, any thoughts y'all might have would be appreciated.... Silicone will work to a point. Neoprene seals are glued together at the seams. Silicone ...

Harper can be an excellent vis place. Back scatter is never a problem if you outfit yourse...

OK ... here's the straight poop. Scent in powder comes from chemicals that differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. So, since it is the talc that some drysuit makers are suggesting, they say no fragrance to be safe. But those same drysuit makers say to change the seals yearly. Why? Because talc doe...

You guys are missing one important part in the equation ... filling them! 4300 PSI is a bunch of pressure! And there are a lot of shops that can't pump that high. There are even more that shouldn't pump that high. A compressor that is rated to run for about 2000 hours before a full overhaul while ru...

It is really an old idea that has been greatly improved. Back in the 80s, we sold a hood that had ear cups build in and got it's air from a line to the second stage. It was made for those people that had perforated ear drums. It is just salesman's rhetoric about making the ears easier to clear. It o...
