Re: Thailand - Similan and Surin Islands

The Bad: Some of the reefs, especially in the southern Similans, show signs of coral bleaching, and there are many areas that are still devastated from the 2004 tsunami. User derekcs mentions East of Eden; this site was our first on the trip and it was a wasteland of damage. I didn't understand why...

Thailand - Similan and Surin Islands

Recently spent a week on The Junk liveaboard off of Phuket, Thailand. We spent 5 days diving in the Similan and Surin Islands in the Andaman Sea. The diving, at its best, was really spectacular. Richelieu Rock is the highlight of the trip. We spent 1 day out of 5 there. It's covered in a rainbow of ...

Re: ThThTh 3/21 Dive & BBQ report

Fun dive! Spent most of it in the bottle field. 2 stubby squid, a red octo, couple grunts, a lumpy at 80 ft. And a big fat moon snail. https://photos.smugmug.com/Underwater/Seattle-Diving/Redondo-Beach-Park-2019-03-21/i-dCBHMxD/1/0b310dc4/M/_DSC2564-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Underwater/Seattl...

Skyline Wall - St. Patrick's Day

Met stphnmartin, vjw, and ScubaJess at Skyline on Sunday morning. The weather was great to the point where the 46 degree water didn't really bother me. The current was much stronger than expected, blowing us away from the entry point (west?). Made focusing the camera very difficult. Was shooting som...

Keystone Super Bowl Sunday

Met up with ScubaJess, YellowEye, stphnmartin, vjw at Keystone yesterday. Got in before it started snowing. Viz was subpar. 5-10 ft maybe? Cloudy enough to make photographing difficult even with macro. But still lots of life. Cockerell's dorid, Hudson's dorid, clown nudibranchs, multicolor dendronot...

ThThTh 1/24

Another Thursday night at Redondo. I've been experimenting with a Retra Light Shaping Device (snoot) on my Ikelite DS161. Thank God for the strobe mode with a modeling light. Would not be able to aim the snoot without it. I've been looking for a stubby squid for the last couple weeks but no luck. Di...

Do the lumpies disappear after the conference championship games? I think I’ll try to make it over there. May go to the bottle field instead though.

Harbor Seals at Cove 2

Decided to spend several nights in a row this week watching harbor seals chase after perch at Cove 2. Saw the same group of three (parents and pup?) each night. As many perch as I've ever seen for them to chase after. Viz was about 10 ft each night. Seemed best on Friday, but the seals are always ki...

Harbor Seals at Cove 2

Was thinking of doing several dives over the week to hang out with the harbor seals at Cove 2. Tides look best Wed - Fri. Looking to splash around 6:30-7 and hopefully avoid the worst of traffic. Anyone interested in any day this week? Saw 3 and lots and lots of perch on New Year's Day.
