Re: Sea star die-off

Here's a national geographic article about the disease and how it may be affecting urchins too:

Bachelor rock 3/28. 20 feet. Surge had it pretty stirred up though. Urchins galore!

Planned to dive salt creek but the winds had the waves going. Looks like things are starting to calm down now.

Nice pics Gdog. I think I may have gotten footage of the same squat lobster. JPA or John-Paul is my dive buddy. Here are a few screen grabs from the video.

Okay, I hit the gym three days in a row and am exhausted, so diving it is. I talked JPA into going as well. What time are we gathering?

I'm in. Think this may close out winter night dives at Redondo as it will be staying light much longer. Hope they have the music turned down at Bill McHales!

Under the hood

On Sunday my dive buddy and I did a three tank charter with PacAdventure on hood canal. Turned out to be a beautiful day both above and below the water. Don even allowed me to fly the drone from the boat. I hadn't flown it in a while and was pretty rusty confusing the sticks on the controller a few ...

2/16 KVI tower, 0-30 feet depth hazy thermocline with 15-20 feet of viz, 30-100 depth about 35-40 feet of viz. Very nice. Also ripping surface current.

I dived the north side on Sunday evening and found 3 lumpies in 8 feet of water. They were shallower than the eel grass on the rocks.

Nice work. I'm always jealous of people getting video of GPOs out in the open. I never seem to come across them out of their dens, much less cooperating with the camera! It's an outrage really! :-)

Sea Lion vs Giant Pacific Octopus

While preparing to dive Blakely Rock this morning the water was disturbed by the thrashing of a massive sea lion. It looked like it was feeding on something. I managed to get some footage of the battle. It's choppy because I had the camera setup for underwater use without image stabilization, but yo...
