Dive Lights

+2 Norris It is not the light's fault that it is dangling and blinding nearby buddies. It is the diver wielding it. That being said, I currently use a "you're gonna die if you dive with that light, pistol-grip light" and I enjoy it. Granted, I never let it dangle even when taking pictures ...

Pony bottle help

I only have experience with a 19 rigged to my tank via the quick release with two pins. I rarely use it. If I were to start using pony bottles more frequently I'd look at a 30 or 40 slung under my left arm. I also am not tech or looking to go that way soon. The 19 just seems a little on the low side...

Bonaire May 2011

Bassman, Thanks for the tip on finding La Dania's leap! That info coupled with a picture I found online should get us pretty close. I plan to dive Karpata first, then on a following day do La Dania so we have a feel for the area. My navigation has returned me from every dive so far... Thanks for the...

Bonaire May 2011

Glad your accommodations worked out. Sounds like some great help and customer service from wannadive. Great report, great pictures. I leave for Bonaire in 36 days but who's counting? Definitely will do La Dania's leap. Heard good things from multiple people. I got the shore dive book and will report...

Oceanic VT 4.0 Preview & Info

Thanks for following up with Tobin.

Haha I won't tell anyone about the retractor.

My buddy was unaware of the VT3 bungee mount as well. When I got one for him he was impressed and loves the automatic depth compensation more than anything.

Oceanic VT 4.0 Preview & Info

Calvin Thanks for linking the article. Good read. The vt4 appears to be roughly the same size and shape as the vt3. Do you think the new one will fit the vt3 DSS bungee mount? I'm assuming you use that for your current vt3 . I currently dive the geo 2 which is awesome. Has the dual algorithm and ste...

Re: Gear Suggestions

For that price, I think you made the right decision. I have about 400 dives on my apollo and it has been nice and warm. It is not a buy once and be done for life drysuit, but the cost/usage ratio isn't bad especially while allocating funds towards a full set of gear.

Need suggestions on Wetsuits

Also, FWIW, my wetsuit before the h2 was an oneill explore 3mil. I liked the cut/fit of the oneill more...being a skinny Asian guy. However the h2 feels great in the water. Would definitely buy it again. My avatar/pic is my h2.

Need suggestions on Wetsuits

I dive a 5mm Henderson h2 in any tropical water. Stretch is perfect and the wrist and neck seal are nice and snug. I haven't felt them stretch out too much after 40 or 50 dives in it. However the ankles are Velcro which makes it awesome for donning doffing but can let a little water up your shins/ca...

Re: Help with wrist mount dive computer

Well i did narrow it down for sure that i want a wrist watch type with a transmitter. But thinking that i want a larger screen. What do you guys think about the visibility of a wrist watch under water? Is it fine for NW? I have a "small" wrist computer compared to other wrist mounted opti...

fantastic thread on drysuit undergarments

I like how he explains the different fibers and how they respond to water, dampness vs soaked through. Never even thought of wool as a main material. And I don't think he does either, just comparing all fibers. Maybe that's why our Canadian friends call them "woolies" (woolys). Although, a...

Re: UK SL-4 SL-6 LED replacement

Does xenon vs led SL-4 matter? I know the other UK lights (mini Q40) are different light head sizes depending on halogen or led. My buddy has one that he never uses, but this might change that! Maybe I'll try to sneak it out of his dive bag and next time he pulls it out he will be surprised.

Re: Seeking advice on diving Maui

My favorite shore dive on Maui is the old Mala Pier (Wharf). It is in Lahaina, by a boat launch so keep an eye out for traffic. I also enjoy Five Caves Five Graves down in Kihei depending on which part of Maui you are going to be in. Here is a thread from a little while ago http://www.nwdiveclub.com...

Helpful Hints for Underwater Photographers

For vertical shots with two strobes I have used one out to the side and one up on a friends rig. Think a 90 degree right angle or a little more. The one out to the side will be up from the camera's "normal" perspective, and the up will be left in its normal out to the side position more or...

There was a very cool freediving video that was shot with the gopro. Posted earlier on this board if I remember right.

New inexpensive HD video camera!

They are apparently coming out with a little LCD attachment, due to the growing popularity. Check out www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/ The thing that interests me is the camera's 170 degree lens. To get that in a normal hd camera is very expensive. And, eyeofmine has designed a better underwater housing spe...
