Re: Bellingham dive spots

Rosario Beach would probably be the closest spot to you with decent visibility. If you are a new diver I wouldn't suggest Skyline wall - you can get in real trouble if you don't hit the currents right.

Re: Sea lion friend or foe?

It's best to stay as far away from the sea lions as possible and to exit the water immediately upon seeing one. Haven't you heard? They are training spec ops sea lions out at Naval Base Kitsap. http://nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23569&hilit=sea+lion+navy Edit: PS - Great video! I rea...

Re: Cell Phone Service at Dive Spots

I have T-Mobile for my personal phone and AT&T for my work phone. I have no issues with my T-Mobile or AT&T service at the Coves, Saltwater or Edmonds. All along the west side of Hood Canal I get spotty service on T-Mobile and a couple of bars of service on AT&T. In general I find that I...

Re: New dive light

Hello all, I am getting back into the scuba world after a long hiatus. Going through the gear and getting it all up to date and most of the gear is still good. I do however need to replace my little canister HID light. The local dive shop here in Tacoma had a little hand mounted Sola light that the...

Re: Zipper Tests - The Results Are In!

Interesting, Thanks Tom I've had metal YKK zippers on my drysuits throughout the years and I typically get about 400 dives before I've had to replace it. In every case the problem starts as a gradual fraying of the inside lip of the zipper until it eventually starts leaking. Tired of what seems like...

The Big Island -

One of the main reasons I love diving is encounters with large pelagics and you can't beat the Big Island of Hawaii for affordable diving and shore access to the big stuff. This first video is a compilation of my morning dives at Two Step, a site located in Captain Cook about 15 miles south of Kona....

Re: New Fins

I have a set of F1's and they are nice. If you get a pair they will be a bit of an adjustment from your atomic splits - they are about 3X heavier. I picked up a set of hog blades for travel and I find that I wear them about 80% of the time for Puget Sound dives now. They are shorter and lighter than...

Re: Al vs SS Backplate?

I dive a HP130, I carry a fair amount of weight anyhow. Would the Al backplate flex or would it hold up with the wight of a 130? I use mine with double 119's so it should be fine with a single 130. I'd suggest a single tank adaptor, not because of the AL plate - They just keep a single tank from sh...

Re: Scuba Trip Tetris

Weight is always at a premium.... I do regs, light, computers and other bits of heavy stuff in my carry-on Roller bags weight about 8 lbs - Use a duffel bag instead If you're going on a liveaboard take about half the amount of clothes that you think you'll need. Your schedule will be eat, dive, eat ...

Re: Al vs SS Backplate?

I use an AL plate for my doubles and a SS plate on my singles rig. Long-story-short I had intended to use the AL plate for travel only but I got tired of taking apart and re-assembling my singles rig. I wear a weight belt like keeping my doubles rig a bit lighter - It allows me to lift them on my bo...

Or.. You could take the valves, manifold and bands off and swap them with me for two pro valves. :highfive: \:D/

Re: Faber tanks?

Here's another idea.... There's a nice set of Faber double 100's for sale on the Rain City Scuba Facebook site for $525. Purchase those, break them apart and pick up a set of Thermo pro valves to put on them. You can sell the bands, manifold and valves or keep them for when you start diving doubles.

Re: Recomendations for Dry Gloves

We have a XL I think pair of atlas gloves at tlsea for $40 I was looking at them last night, but not the ring system As Penopolypants mentioned that's way too expensive - bordering on being a rip off. If you can't get down to Seattle Marine (they have bankers hours in the winter) you can get them o...

Re: mother &^#%%$ thieves

Call all of the local dive shops and give them a list of everything that you had with as much detail as you can remember. Also, post it here on the NWDC as well as on FB. Tech diving gear has a pretty limited market so something is bound to turn up. Last month a buddy had his Cuda 650 stolen from hi...

Re: Dive light

I own three of the DRIS 1000 lumen lights and they cant be beat for the $60 price tag. A set of C batteries will last at least 3 hours, It has a tight beam and enough power to cut through our murky Puget Sound waters, and it's built like a tank. It also makes for a great back-up light once you decid...

West Marine usually has a pretty decent selection of NOAA charts.

You can also order physical copies on NOAAs website or download the PDF and print them at home.

We tried pulling the usual permit for a drift dive Sunday night and the ranger told us the fee to dive had been raised to 25. Re: Hyperbaric trip experience/getting bent call for insight

For an air dive the profile look slightly aggressive but not outrageous. I would have done my ascent a bit different but have done this exact same profile hundreds of times without issue. Every time we breathe compressed gas underwater we run the risk of getting bent, it's just part of the sport. We...
