Re: Flagpole

Awesome photos!
I would be interested to learn more about your camera setup.

They sure look like you use some very expensive gear .. if you are getting shots like this with regular gear I would certainly love to hear some tips :)

Also a great place to meet other divers and arrange some car pools up to Puget Sound or Hood Canal. Surface Interval Society -- www.meetup.com/S...

When I was there Town Pier was closed due to the cruise ships that were stopping by later in the week.

So I think its pretty much a perma-close.

Also while I am posting :)
You should check out the Oregon Scuba Club -- www.oregonscuba.com

Interesting meetings about diving and people from South West Washington are highly encouraged to attend.
Our president this year lives in Vancouver.

Re: First cold water dive Battle Ground lake.

Hey Jared,

Lake Merwin or Yale Lake are someplace to dive locally to the PDX/VAN area if you can't get up north.
The water there is a lot cleaner then Battleground lake.

The line to follow in Lake Merwin is at least something to do

Or the wall in Yale Lake

Re: Blue Magpie Newport Oregon

Aaron Gifford commented to me on Facebook he recently went out there and dove this area and would put together some of his awesome video work about it.

That video above is way old -- 1989? and that's really interesting the USIA guy is in it (I am kinda a local diving history buff)

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Sat Dec 17th

I am terrible at estimating viz but at Octopus Hole in the Canal -- You could see the sun glowing thru the surface from the top of the wall. So it was really really good.

Verticle viz seemed better then horizontal viz but it was considered an epic dive :)

Re: Newb from Vancouver WA.

Hey Justin, Check out the Oregon Scuba club. They are located on Portland Oregon but they do love people from Vancouver Washington. They have organized free monthly shore dives and monthly meetings where you can hear presentations about diving and meet other divers. Last Weekend we did a crab dive a...

Re: Titlow - Or Bust!

I am far from an expert on the tides and currents but I do know Titlow is a dive site subject to the currents. From looking at the charts over at m I am not sure its the best weekend to visit Titlow. Seems like there is going to be quite an current going on. If I am reading the chart wrong -- Please...

I am going to be up on a boat trip in Howe Sound for a few days.
Whats an easy dive shop to get to if you don't have a car in that area?

Re: I got Hit HARD .... LMJ

I noticed the more I got stung the less it hurt.....
But then I decided to stop putting my face into the jellyfish tentacles which was a much better idea :)

When its on your skin scrapping it off with a credit card seems to help a bit.
Can't really do that when its inside your lips.

Re: advice for dry suit newby

+1 on the class
I think I did my class for the suit 3 or 4 months after I got it.

Its always a benefit to go out with an instructor who is an expert in a subject because you will learn something and it will help you to be a better diver.

Re: Worthington hp 100 alloy problem

I am glad worthington is standing behind the tanks. There have been a few divers with this same problem. Was it the galvanizing coating that cracked? Someone said a batch of tanks it was too thick. My worthingtons are 2-3 years from their first Hydro -- If they happen to fail I won't be that happy t...

Re: Tillamook Parks Boat Launch Rules

I just dove there today and a park ranger came by to check on people paying the parking fee. He didn't say a word about not using the boat ramp (hardly any boats around here all day). On my envelope for remitting my parking fee I wrote scuba diver on it. Hopefully some more divers start doing this s...

Excellent Aaron! I look forward to picking your brain about shore (and boat) diving off the Oregon coast. While I love diving in Hood Canal and the sound and will continue to dive there for a very long time, I am really looking for places people don't dive very often to see more critters and underwa...

Yes hopefully the boat fills up. I signed up for this trip as soon as I saw it and I hope to see more charters lined up out of Newport. Getting the chance to dive someplace "wild" will be very cool. Come on Oregon divers fill up these last couple spots! (I am not affiliated with the shop j...

We would be happy to have you come along and get back into diving!
