Quick tip for dealing with marauding elephant seals (especially the big bull males):
Use a tarp held between two people. Hold it high. The size of the thing intimidates the seals, and bulls will [often] back off when something is bigger/taller than themselves.

Re: Diving during the lockdown
Port Townsend is a ghost town, no crowds here. You could quite easily park anywhere and suit up and dive Point Hudson without any problem. I wish I was diving yesterday-- took a walk downtown to the docks and the water was super clear.
I imagine Rockaway is still accessible too.

Re: The Bottle Thread
A quick shout out to Don at Octopus Gardens Diving who kindly filled my tanks today despite the shop being otherwise closed! Hey, one more note on the antique ammo. Despite having spent a long time under the salt, those cartridges are in quite good condition. It’s possible that the primers and necks...

Re: The Bottle Thread
Hey, 60South! I love what a bored and knowledgeable group mind can do when it comes to finding info!!! No idea *when* they were submerged, but they are identified now. Most awesome! Thanks, I figured there's enough history and gun buffs out there that we could figure this out. I love all the medici...

Re: The Bottle Thread
Perhaps it’s off a British or Canuckian vessel and the stripper clip is .303 Lee-Enfield. Can one of the rounds be removed from the clip so you can look for the head stamp? There's writing but it's mostly corroded away. I took wire brush and sand paper to a couple... I can read "18" and a star, may...

Re: The Bottle Thread
Well, something a little different today from Port Townsend. Live ammunition, circa WW I? And a few older bottles, the two on the right are probably from the 1890's.

Re: Cabo Diving
Cabo is surprisingly good given all the development. Rays, sea lions, and swirling tornadoes of yellow tails were just a few of the sights. If you get the opportunity, take the day trip to La Paz to snorkel with the whale sharks and dive at the islands. Highly recommended. Manta Diving, and others, ...

New Year's Dive at Point Whitney
A really great turnout, and fantastic weather (considering the forecast) at Point Whitney on 1/1. The dive and potluck was put together by Octopus Gardens Diving in Port Townsend. Water temp 45F, vis at depth 20-25 ft, with GPOs, flatfish, thousands of shrimp, and a sea lion cruising through. :pirat...

There are rumors that Octopus Gardens is planning New Year's Day dive(s) at Pt. Whitney. I have yet to confirm, but assuming it's 'on' and the weather isn't a hurricane, I'll be there.

We did a dive in Port Townsend today to remove derelict crabbing gear from the bay, all of it around the docks. My buddy and I pulled up 6 crab pots!

Maybe try Dive Assure? I've enrolled with them before. It is primary insurance, not secondary like DAN, so more expensive but arguably better.

Is it Art? I don't care, I want it.
Sometimes I see things I don't need but highly covet, like a full-size chrome hammerhead shark. Seen yesterday in downtown San Francisco.
