Re: Computers (Part 2)
Very interesting point. I have been doing some reading on the subject and it sounds like there is still heavy use of tables even with computers. Maybe I am missing something in all this but why are computers so popular with tech divers if "nobody" uses them? Great question. The answer is ...

Re: Computers (Part 2)
If you like the Shearwater, I am selling my Predator. It has about 50 dives on it, this was my backup for deco dives. Comes with the box, all software and Bluetooth... The same way it comes new. $700 gets it shipped. I have an extra backplate with the bungee mounts installed for $10. ImageUploadedBy...

Thanks Chris. No gun with me on that dive. If you are talking about the barracuda, I tried it once, even smoked it, still tasted terrible to me.
It's a taste I won't be acquiring.
Tons of huge lionfish on it though

A tour of the Hydro Atlantic on a 120 foot day of vis
It does not happen often, but in the winter here in South Florida, if you can find a break in the seas and can stand the cold water (79 degrees) you can be rewarded with some awesome visibility. We have had some recent good sized swells, so getting out of the inlet has been a bit more tens...

I'm still here until the end of January. Feb 1st we transfer to Oahu. I wish I could get out there sometime soon, but gotta get settled into Hawaii first. When y'all comin to Hawaii? After you're settled in - i.e., you've figured out where and what to spear ;) Hopefully it won't take me long!

Re: Gas Analyzers
It all depends on which commercial unit you are talking about. You can make the DIY unit as small as you want with whatever size "project box" you buy. Other then that, it's just several wires, a knob, a switch and a pcb in the box with a battery. Pretty damn rugged design. The whole thing...

Re: Gas Analyzers
As far as the home built analyzers, they are every bit as good as any you can buy. I ordered one of the el cheapos from oxycheq and then I built one of my own from scratch ordering parts online. Both work perfectly and I built the second one for less than 100 bucks. The heart of any analyzer is the ...

Re: Nitrox training
I didn't get that impression either. Seems to me that there are probably some good instructors out there that may ask something along the lines of "let's talk about ppo2" and the student nails it with a well rounded answer that covers all the curriculum bases... You would move on pretty qu...

Your narc had always seemed to be the worst when you are on the surface!

Re: Nitrox training
I would suggest finding an independent instructor who is willing to forgo the day of teaching if you can demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles. I don't remember as its been a while since my nitrox cert, but I seem to recall dives not even being necessary. Maybe offer to fill their tank...

Re: What training do we need next
If your buoyancy sucks at any depth, you don't need to be doing the AN/DP class yet.
On the bright side, knowing and admitting it is half way to the solution.
IMO, rock solid buoyancy at any depth then you can start training for soft or hard overhead environments.

Re: What training do we need next
To me, the logical sequence of events to get to the depths I have seen you describe is nitrox class, then advanced nitrox/decompression procedures. I will add a caveat that nitrox class can happen anytime. However advanced nitrox and deco procedures should not happen until you are absolutely comfort...

Re: IP adjustment on Hog regs
Trying to break 300 dives this year. Got about 35 to go. We will see.
It's my primary doubles reg so it doesn't see as much use as my single, but its got close to 100 dives on it in the last year.

I have the spanner wrenches. Just pulled the cap and found it!
It's been a bit over a year since I bought them. Now that I know where the ip is, I'll be rebuilding tonight
Thanks!!!

IP adjustment on Hog regs
While the weather has been sucking here for the last week, I figured I would do some checks on the gear. Put the IP guage on my HOG reg and it's reading about 15-20 psi low. Reads about 110-115. However, when I press the red plastic button on the bottom of the reg, it shoots right up to what it shou...

Re: Thoughts on filling ones own tanks
I have a helium analyzer but as koos says, it's not hooked into the system. Filling through the bag into the compressor does allow all helium to be used. I even hook a second tank and whip into the bag once the first tank starts to get low so I can truly use ALL gas out of the first cylinder. Like I...
