Re: Club dive! Club dive! Club dive! MOVED! May 10th, 2014!
I may come socialize, haven't been diving lately due to the state of my equipment and a lack of discretionary income to restore it to a functional state. I'd be interested in carpooling if any of my North End friends are willing to stop in Shoreline.

Re: Thank You John Rawlings
Did John accept the position of Moderator Emeritus and Club Dive Sage? I'm sure it carries the same generous benefits package all the other mods are getting?
I've always enjoyed John's posts, photography, and publications. I hope there will be more conversations in the future.

Re: Found a heavy-duty sewing gadget
That's a widget that has been around forever. If you live in Seattle and want one they have them at Hardwick's in the case to the right of the pliers and probably at Seattle Fabrics too. If I'm hand sewing I prefer to use a sailmaker's palm and needle but it's a good tool if you haven't learned trad...

Are you unaware of the ability to mark posts/topics as read? You can do this site wide or for a particular forum. That way you'll only see updated threads without removing content that other people might be interested in. You can also just view unread posts, new posts, or posts without replies.

I've heard it is very good but have't bought any yet. It is also packaged in 12oz cans, Town and Country Markets has them.

Re: Making hard cider
Ive been making beer for a number of years, to include building a big brewery that took over my whole garage. Been thinking about making cider for a few years.... maybe this is the year I try it! It's way less work than an all grain brew day. If you have an empty bucket or carboy you should give it...

Re: Making hard cider
I just realized that the club dive is a month away. If you pick up around 2.5-3lbs if honey, DAP, FermaidK, potassium carbonate (or bicarb), and a smack pack of Wyeast 1388 you could bring your own batch to compare. If you don't have a gallon jug pick up a frosting bucket from a bakery and put a gro...

I haven't thought that far ahead but it would be nice to come visit with everyone. If it lasts that long I'll try and get a sample sent your direction.

Re: Making hard cider
I just racked my first mead in to a new carboy tonight an sipped a sample. It's pretty tasty and devoid of off flavors for a batch that started fermenting 3/23 (17 days ago) and finished at around 13%ABV. I'll probably bottle it in 12oz beer bottles next week but I don't think it will be around to a...

Intresting wreck mitigation in Northern BC
Interesting WWII wreck that brought attention upon itself when she started leaking oil about ten years ago. Nothing like doing salvage work on a wreck with munitions sitting on a ledge at 130' ready to slide off into seriously deep water. I certainly enjoyed the day I spent heading south down Grenvi...

Re: Making hard cider
It's been a couple of months since I posted to this thread but since I'm drinking ginger infused apple cider tonight I thought I'd update everyone. I've lost count of exactly how many small batches I've made but right now I've got my two 3gal. and my 6gal. carboy full plus a few gallon jugs bulk agi...

There's a variety available at SeaMar if you aren't handy with a sewing machine.

FWIW there is a dock there if you want to have a non-boat dive boat dive. I've never stayed there since it gets ferry wakes all the time and there are more attractive overnight options nearby.

I've really enjoy Tech Diver Magazine (free & online only) which has a great series of articles and interviews about the history of diving. Defiantly take a look even if you don't care about the current price of helium.

Re: 200 Year Old Anchor Found off Whidbey Island
Is this the same anchor whose discovery was discussed here earlier? If so it might be wise to do a little searching and redact the posts that describe it's location until it is recovered. I'd hate to see some idiot who subscribes to the Times go out searching for a lawn ornament if there is a plan f...

Re: Upcoming Beach Replenishment
The source of the material is going to be dredge spoils, probably from the Snohomish River; we're about due to clean out the sediment traps and the previous disposal sites have been eaten up by buildings. I think this may be a cause for concern, hopefully the NWDC brain-trust can spring into action...

I've been packing Vickies for a while since I can get the sheath and zip tie it to my harness for a reasonable price(reasonable Alaska price). And they're sold at our local marine supply store. Another good thing about a thin blade steak knife is the blade will flex a bit, so you can cut around sha...

Re: Dive boat sinking near Phuket
Interesting to see that the lifeboat failed to deploy or inflate. The video doesn't show the boat sinking far enough to cause a canister packed life raft to inflate. Once released from a cradle (either manually or by an automatic hydro-static release) typically 50'-100' of line has to be pulled out...

Re: Upcoming Beach Replenishment
They've had quite a fiasco with a similar project in LA during the summer of 2012. The fill was full of litter and there was quite a bit of sedimentation spread from the project. There was quite a bit of discussion in the SoCal forum at DMX , Ken Kurtis's updates are worth reading, this one might be...
